With the recent release of the remake forResident Evil 3, fans are eager to see what will come out of Capcom next. Will it be the next numbered sequel in the series? Or will it be another remake? Rumors are flying around thatResident Evil 4could get this treatment next, but does it really need it?

That is to say, there are plenty of other horror games that would benefit more from gettingremade, or at the very least, remastered. These ten games range from the probable to the impossible to the biggest dreams imaginable. When writing one of these, one has to think big, right?
10Silent Hill 2
Let’s begin with the rival to theResident Evilfranchise.Silent Hill 2and the third entry in the series got HD remasters, but they were not handled well. The first game did get a remake as more of an adventure game without combat, which was an interesting choice.
Among the fans,Silent Hill 2is the best in the series and deserves a more modern version. TurningP.T.into the full-fledged game it was intended to set up,Silent Hills, would also stir up fan support.
9Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
TheNintendoGameCube is where this remake phenomenon with horror began viaResident Evil. Another great horror game, way ahead of its time, wasEternal Darkness.
Some of the tricks used in it, like turning down the volume, couldn’t work in the same way today. That’s why a more modern take is necessary. On top of that, it has never been available in any form since the GameCube.
8Sweet Home
Sweet Homewas aFamicomgame that was the inspiration forResident Evil. It featured several investigators entering a mansion. Selecting certain crew members meant that they could perform tasks to solve puzzles like opening locks, or clearing debris.
There were also some basic turn-based RPG battles. At the very least, this Japan-exclusive has received an English fan patch, but a remake would be perfect.
7Resident Evil Gaiden
One RPG that Capcom did release in the West wasResident Evil Gaiden, a Game Boy Color game. It starred Leon and Barry trapped aboard a zombie-infested ship. Running into an enemy would make the game go into first-person with players having to time button presses in order to do damage.

It was an interesting idea, but not well thought out; however, a trueResident EvilRPG could go a long way. Plus, this could add some much-needed backstory to Leon prior to his Ashley rescuing antics inResident Evil 4.
6Parasite Eve
Moving away from Capcom, this lost to time Square classic is technically fine just the way it is. Yes, the graphics don’t look as stellar as they once did, but in terms of creating a tight, horror RPG with good mechanics,Parasite Eveholds up extremely well.
That said, it sure would be nice to see it get some extra love in a remake.
5Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
This is the first in the series and also a forgotten PS1 gem. Unlike its sequel,Soul Reaver, which was an action-puzzle platformer akin toTomb Raider,Blood Omenwas a top-down, Zelda-like adventure game.
WasBlood Omena pure horror game? No, but going into the shoes of a vampire to slay other beasties is, at least, spooky adjacent.Bloodborneisn’t a horror game either, but that is one haunting adventure.
4Castlevania
Speaking ofBloodborne, that game felt like a spiritual successor toCastlevania. Since that launched, fans have wondered about the idea of going back to the original game to create something akin toBloodborne,or evenDark Souls.

In a way, this idea would likely be closer to a reboot than a remake, sort of likeLords of Shadowtried to be. While that game tried to emulateGod of War, this remake/reboot could provide a more solitary, haunting adventure. It’s a big wish, but that’s what this article is all about. The sky is the limit.
3Darkwatch
Darkwatchis another more action-heavy game with more horror aesthetics than actual suspense. This license only got one premiere, even though there was a planned sequel.
Being a vampire in the Wild West was an interesting take for the time and is one worth revisiting. Alternatively, another interesting take on the vampire genre wasBloodrayne. That saw a female assassin going after Nazis.
2Onimusha
In 2019,Onimushafinally came back via a remaster on most platforms. It was cheap and fun to go back to even though not much work was done to the package.
At this point, fans would take the rest of the series as remasters, but a similarly styled remake/reboot akin toResident Evil 2for the first game would be wild.Niohis sort of like that in a way, but perhaps a little too challenging at times.
1Dino Crisis
While this series never touched the highs of theResident Evilgames, the idea of creating that same gameplay style, but with dinosaurs is still a concept worth revisiting. ADino Crisisremake might be in the realm of possibility.
Dinosaurs are getting hot in pop culture once again thanks toJurassic World, and it is time for Capcom to strike while the iron is hot.
