In contrast, the worst horror movie ghosts or monsters are predictable and lackluster. They don’t add anything to the genre and sometimes, the rules surrounding their creation, backstory, and actions don’t make much sense.
When a supernatural horror villain comes along and doesn’t leave much of an impression, it’s hard not to feel disappointed, given how memorable some of these figures are. But unlike Samara Morgan and her stringy black hair and videotape curse inThe Ring, these supernatural villains aren’t very scary or exciting.

The Creeper From The Jeeper’s Creepers Franchise
The 2022 movieJeeper’s Creepers: Reborndidn’t thrill horror fans, and the franchise about The Creeper didn’t need a new movie. In all four films, the monster feeds every 23 years for 23 days, and people are powerless to stop him. In the first movie, he sufficiently scares Trish (Gina Philips) and Daryl Jenner (Justin Long), but he is never given any more layers as the franchise goes on.
Jeepers Creepers: Rebornis a guide for bad rebootsand doesn’t add anything to the story of this villain, who has never been very well-developed. While it’s scary that he eats people, that’s about all that anything knows about him. Where did he come from? How was he created? These are all important questions that would add some interesting layers to the horror franchise. Instead,Rebornsuggests that The Creeper will always find a way to come back and hunt people again. But instead of this being compelling, it’s just boring. Not only is The Creeper forgettable, but chances are that horror fans often forget about this franchise in general.
Tobi In The Paranormal Activity Franchise
While it’s possible to say thatParanormal Activityis thebest Blumhouse horror franchise, the demon Tobi at the heart of the story is pretty dull. Audiences aren’t given enough information about him to be sufficiently interested, and by the third or fourth movie, watching the main characters notice supernatural disturbances in their home becomes tired.
In contrast toterrifying horror movie demons, Tobi doesn’t behave much differently, as he does possess many characters throughout the franchise. However, he’s just not as compelling or eerie as he could be, and he feels vague rather than mysterious.
Charlie Grimille/The Hangman In The Gallows (2015) & The Gallows II (2019)
The Gallows: Act II’s rare 0% Rotten Tomatoes ratingis surprising, and the first movie isn’t any better. As a group of teenagers put on a play, they realize that the ghost of Charlie Grimille (Jesse Cross), also known as The Hangman, is stalking everyone who is involved with the production and wants them all dead. Even the name of this supernatural villain leaves a lot to be desired, as it sounds corny rather than scary. The premise of a haunted school play is a good one, but the first movie doesn’t do much with it.
The Hangman doesn’t have a memorable appearance, either, as it looks like he has a paper bag on his head or like he created a mask out of lumpy and thin material. Since the villain isn’t scary and is easy to forget about, it makes sense thatThe Gallowsand the sequel have been so poorly received.
Calux In Truth Or Dare (2018)
Truth Or Dareis aBlumhouse horror movie that falls flat, and that’s because of the cheesy premise of a game that has a deadly curse attached. Calux, a sinister demon, influences the main characters to reveal their secrets and hurt each other in the process.
Truth Or Darefeels more like an awkward movie about teenagers than a terrifying and satisfying horror story, and if there was strong character development, there would be something to be interested in. Unfortunately, both the demon and Olivia Barron (Lucy Hale) and her friends are dull. While it has somescary horror movie smiles, that’s about it.
Madison Elizabeth Frank’s Ghost In What Lies Beneath (2000)
Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) and her husband Norman (Harrison Ford) seem to live a peaceful life in the 2000 thrillerWhat Lies Beneath, but then Claire begins seeing visions and experiencing strange things. This is all thanks to the ghost of Madison Elizabeth Frank (Amber Valletta), Norman’s first wife.
One of theworst 2000s horror movies,What Lies Beneathdoesn’t have a very memorable villain. While people likely recall the performances from the two main actors since they’re so famous, it’s harder to remember Madison herself. As a ghost, she doesn’t stand out from the crowd, which is a problem since she’s the reason why Claire is in this situation at all.
