Update 04/01: Mundfish has since clarified that its tweet was meant to be an April Fools' joke.
Original story follows.
Mundfish has announced new details about the DLC for the studio’s first game,Atomic Heart.Atomic Heartwas released in February 2023, with multiple DLC packs confirmed to be on the way. Some of the DLC has already been released, such as cosmetics like weapon skins, but little has been revealed about the story DLC.
Atomic Heart’srelease has been marred by controversy concerning the developer’s connection to Russia. There have been allegations that the developer has accepted money from Russian energy corporations, shared user data with the Russian government, and refused to renounce the war in Ukraine. As a result of these allegations, many of which Mundfish denies,Ukraine called for the game to be boycottedon various platforms including Steam. Despite these calls, the game remains easily available in most countries.

Atomic Heart, a first-person shooter with RPG elements, has generally been generally well-received. The game has developed a cult following that is anxiously awaiting news regarding the upcoming DLC. The game currently contains approximately 25 hours worth of content to play through the story. While its setting and art direction are generally praised, critics ofAtomic Hearthave found thatthe game’s dialogue is a bit much and that some of the combat encounters, especially melee fights, can begin to feel repetitive.
Mundfish has announced via Twitter that one of its next DLCs forAtomic Heartwill take six hours to complete. This is fairly impressive, as this would make it a touch longer than a lot of other DLC releases out there. It also means that at least one of the DLC packs will increase the game’s playtime by roughly 25%, on top of whatever is contained in the other three announced DLCs. Each of the four DLCs will focus on the single-player campaign and adda new location for players to explore.
Atomic Hearthas not given a release date for the DLC, although many players expect the expansions to be released sometime over the next year and a half. It is not clear how much the DLC will cost on its own, but purchasers of the premium edition are automatically enrolled in the game’s season pass and will have access to the four upcoming story DLCs. One thing that many players are hoping for in the upcoming DLC isAtomic Heartmoving further from its deepaesthetic connection toBioShockand forging its own distinct identity, but that remains to be seen.
Atomic Heartis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
