Remember that sweet kid from the neighborhood who knew the name of every wildflower that grew in the schoolyard, and probably took more than a few punches for it? That might have been Gale, the Wizard of Waterdeep inBaldur’s Gate 3.In the game, he has an interesting romance arc for those players who want to get closer to him.
It’s idealto have a Wizardat the party anyway, and this is a powerful one. Part of Gale’s backstory is that he was a prodigy watched over by the goddess of Mystra herself, but this extra attention didn’t come without consequences. Players can find out more if they take on his romantic story arc as part of their adventure.

Finding & Recruiting Gale
Gale also falls next to the Illithid ship, but he’s on the opposite side of it from the protagonist and Shadowheart. He is trapped in a magical portal he used to break his fall. Head north through the ship, and to find him, look for a swirling purple and black portal next to the road.
This resembles a Waypoint, but inspecting it more closely reveals a human hand sticking out and a tense but polite voice asking for help. The player can choose to help by using a Strength roll to pull Gale out, or by using other options related to their class.

Gale introduces himself in a rather long-winded salutation that reveals him to be a very smart person who tries a little too hard, which is part of his charm. He can join the party if there’s room, but he can also wait in camp.
Gale’s Approval Rating
Gale is a practical person, but he’s also sentimental and has some definitive ideas about right and wrong. He especially appreciates it when Tav takes a stand for what’s right, even if that means they might get hurt. He’s also turned on by brains as opposed to brawn, so read a lot of books to impress him.
It makes sense to save the Gale romance for a Paladin run, or a similar class that follows a Lawful or Chaotic Good moral alignment. Gale doesn’t approve of Deception, cruelty, or stupidity.

Companions that align with Gale when it comes to Approving the protagonist’s actions are Karlach, Wyll, Halsin, and Jaheira, although they won’t agree all the time. Shadowheart is one he agrees with more often than not. Party members he’ll clash with are Lae’zel and Astarion.

Romancing Gale
Gale is not a character that relies on fake charm or a sultry voice to get his way, unlike other companions who tend to get more attention than he does. On the other hand,Gale is painfully honest himselfand appreciates the same from others. His real strength, however, is his amazing imagination and the impressive magical talents he uses to make his visions a reality.
Gale’s Companion quests are entitled “The Wizard of Waterdeep” in the Journal. It’s different from other companion quests in the sense that Tav seems helpless to change or stop the turn of events leading up to Gale’s inevitable fate. Still, there are choices the protagonist can make that give him a better ending than others.
Act 1
The famous Elminster shows up to deliver some bad news to Gale on behalf of their patron goddess, Mystra, at this point in the story. This event occurs near the end of Act 1 either in the mountains near the Rosymorn Monastery or in the Underdark via the Grymforge elevator.
