The world ofGame of Thronesis not merciful toward those who can’t take care of themselves. Especially if they happen to be a member of one of the noble families residing in Westeros and the remaining lands. The heroes of the show could confirm it’s true. Many of them met their untimely ending, usually in a violent fashion.

While that was sad news for the characters,Game of Thronesfans could rejoice. It led to the creation of more than one epic fight scene. And while there is something impressive about armies fighting each other, an intense sword fight between two opponents is even better.Game of Thronesoffered several remarkable ones.

Game of Thrones Bronn fights a trial by combat for Tyrion

5Bronn Vs Vardis Egen

Fighting with honor is never a good idea, even more so when more than one life is at stake. One of the fan-favorite characters of the show, Bronn, has multiple fighting scenes inGame of Thrones. His moment to shine comes very early on, in the sixth episode of the first season. Bronn fights for Tyrion as his champion in the trial by combat, organized by Lysa Arryn. Unlike the knight, Ser Vardis Egen,Bronn is a mercenary, not a knight.

As such, he’s not afraid to fight dirty in order to win. First, he leads the knight clad in presumably heavy armor in a dance around the room, using his environment to his advantage. And once Vardis starts tiring out, Bronn is quick to finish him off with a few well-aimed strikes, much to Lysa’s chagrin and Tyrion’s joy. The fight serves as a way to showcase Bronn’s character traits, his cunning nature and resilience as well as his ability to improvise and use his opponent’s weaknesses against them.

Game of Thrones, The Mountain and Oberyn Martell

4Oberyn Martell Vs Gregor Clegane

The duel between Oberyn and the Mountain is one of the scenes that stayed with the fans for a long time. Mostly due to its surprising and brutal ending. Oberyn is in the right here as he’s seeking vengeance for the death of his sister Elia and her children. The Mountain, on the other hand, is barely more than a hulking monsterwho shows no mercy to his opponents. The two men seem evenly matched at first, considering Oberyn’s swiftness and Gregor’s size.

For a moment, it looks like Oberyn might win when he manages to cut the Mountain multiple times. But Oberyn’s confidence and his emotions get the best of him in the end. The Mountain uses his rival’s distraction to overcome him with his strength and ends up smashing his head into pieces. This time around, Tyrion’s champion in the trial of combat fares much worse than Bronn, a fact that very nearly sealed his fate at that time.

Game of Thrones Brienne fights Jaime

3Brienne Of Tarth Vs Jaime Lannister

From enemies to (un)willing allies and finally lovers, that’s one way to describethe relationship between Brienne and Jaimein the show. Before he lost his hand, Jaime was one of the best swordsmen in Westeros. Despite that, when he tricks Brienne and steals one of her two swords, Brienne emerges victorious from the fight. At the same time, it’s difficult to overlook that Jaime isn’t in his top condition, having been captured and dragged around for quite a while, as he points out.

He still manages to give Brienne pointers about her fighting abilities. The banter between the characters as well as the dilemma Brienne faces (to kill and fail her task, or not to kill and risk her own death) adds extra tension to the scene and makes it one of the best sword fights inGame of Thrones.

Game of Thrones Arya fights Brienne

2Arya Stark Vs Brienne Of Tarth

Brienne is responsible for some of the best sword fights inGame of Thrones. Even though in this case, the fight is more of a sparring session, since neither woman is attempting to hurt, let alone kill the other. Brienne, especially, is taking it easy on Arya at first, at least until she realizes that taking it easy on her is the last thing Arya needs.

The fight is a good example that it’s not always about who’s the biggest or oldest but also about technique and speed. In the end, it ends up an even match, but it’s obvious Brienne didn’t expectArya to be able to fight so well. The soundtrack adds even more charm to the scene and considering the fact that it’s one of the more light-hearted fight moments in the show, it deserves the attention of the fans.

Game of Thrones Syrio fights Meryn

1Syrio Forel Vs Meryn Trant (And Lannister Men)

Arya’s sword-fighting tutor Syrio Forel was one of the first people who took Arya seriously and started teaching her how to fight. It helped Arya become the person who would manage to kill the Night King in the end. Of course, Syrio wasn’t there to see it. He died when he took on Ser Meryn Trant and the other Lannister men, giving Arya a chance to escape.

What makes his final stand even more impressive is that not only did he face multiple opponents, but he only had a wooden sword at his disposal. Still, he does well even though he’s at a disadvantage and Arya lives to see another day thanks to him.
