Biomutantis fast approaching its release date after years of waiting, but classes are now set, and players already know what they do. There are currently six classes in the game, with the Mercenary class exclusive toBiomutantpre-orders, and still a mystery in terms of its actual abilities.Character creation inBiomutantis a reasonably deep process, and it doesn’t involve simply picking a class to play, but also a breed, mutations, and other cosmetic changes.

Overall, the five classes revealed thus far forBiomutantoffer a varied playstyle that allows them to each have their own utility and strength. While the selection is not easy, it may be easier for some players to pick one class over others once they know exactly what they’re getting into. It’s yet unclear whether players will be able to change their class later on in the game, and as such, the choice matters quite a bit when first starting their journey into the mad, wild world ofBiomutant.

Before delving into the classes, it’s important to note that these will each be represented with their iconic weapons, which are most likely the starting weapons as well, but that doesn’t mean that the class will determine which weapons a player can use. Instead, characters inBiomutantcan take on whatever weaponcombination, skills, and magic, with no limitations imposed by the class they selected. Gamers could still go for the Psi-Freak and use melee weapons too, despite not having any in the character creation screen.

Dead-Eye is for players who enjoy the role of the rogue or the assassin in RPGs, so to speak. Its signature weapons seem to be a two-handed sword and a gun, making it probably a versatile pick. The Dead-Eye has an active ability called Perfect Reload, which grants the player the ability to instantly reload their weapons and have their next magazine deal more damage. While balanced in its gunplay and melee capabilities, the Dead-Eye seems to be slightly more guns focused. Instantly reloading all the gunsBiomutantplayers have equipped can be game-changing to sustain DPS, and also to take out foes in multi-enemy battles as quickly as possible.

Biomutant’s Commando

The Commando is yet another class with a focus on ranged weapons, but guns are its predominant specialization. This class comes with an active ability, and no passives. Commandos have the skill Fury from the very start, allowing them to deal 10% more damage with ranged weapons. One could argue that the Dead-Eye’s signature skill seems more powerful, but Fury doesn’t specify how long it lasts, which is potentially huge in terms of sustained DPS on a single target. Commando could be a solid boss killer. IfBiomutantwas a multiplayer game, then by all means Commandos would be among the most used classes for dungeons or other activities.

Biomutant’s Psi-Freak

This is the only class inBiomutantthat comes with both an active skill and a passive skill, excluding thepre-order-exclusive Mercenary class.. The Psi-Freak is the magician of the bunch, and it starts the game with a lightning-based skill that shoots a Spark Ball in the direction players are facing when casting. Psi-Freak and its Megamind passive ability cements how important Ki-Energy is inBiomutantfor players who want to use mutations and magic. Ki-Energy is basically mana inBiomutant, and Megamind makes it regenerate faster. Psi-Freak may be the best choice for magic-oriented gamers.

Biomutant’s Saboteur

Saboteurs look cool, but considering their Twin Silver Grip passive ability makes them the only class inBiomutantthat can dual wield melee weapons, they’re even more interesting. With how important combos are inBiomutant’s Wung-Fu, dual-wielding melee weapons could unlock even more combos to use to wreak havoc on enemies at close range. That’s not all; Saboteurs also come with another passive skill called Hyperenergetic, causing Dodge to cost less Energy when used. This is incredibly powerful to have, as Dodge will likely be one of the best defenses in the game to avoid otherwise lethal attacks.

Biomutant’s Sentinel

Finally, the Sentinel. Let’s be honest, everyone thought thatBiomutant’s Sentinel looked a bit like a sloth, regardless of the mutant’s breed and genetic code. This is the class to choose to have a tankier character for the hordes ofenemies inBiomutant.Sentinel’s Toughness passive increases the mutant’s base Armor value by 10. It’s not yet known how much Armor players will have if they invest heavily into Vitality, and how much a bonus of 10 to the base value can be impactful in the long run. The Sentinels are likely to focus more on melee combat, too, and extra Armor can make all the difference when fighting tougher enemies that would otherwise be too strong.

Biomutantreleases on June 30, 2025, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
