Though bugs and glitches can lead to some funny moments inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, one player had a strange encounter with the ghastly Headless Horseman that saw him parted from his departed horse. TheSkyrimplayer documented the strange appearance in a video and posted it on social media for other gamers to discuss and share their own tales about the spectral rider.
Under normal circumstances,Skyrimplayers can go hours without seeing the Headless Horseman at all. However, players that dare to seek him out have a few ways to do that. During the daytime, the Headless Horseman can be foundin a Nordic tomb called Hamvir’s Rest, located in the Whiterun region. The Horseman will be taking his rest there, but the Dragonborn will have to fight some draugr and skeletons in order to reach him. Come nightfall, the Headless Horseman and his horse can be seen along the roads ofSkyrimas he makes his way to Hamvir’s Rest. Given that the Horseman can be along any of the roads in Skyrim, it may take players time to find him.

However, one Skyrimplayer named Br0wnieDraws on Reddit stated that their encounter with the Headless Horseman saw them chasing after his horse. In a video lasting over one minute, the player was riding on their horse and heading home when they saw the spectral steed of the Headless Horseman running along the road, with the Horseman not atop it but several steps behind in pursuit. The OP then pursued the Headless Horseman and the horse, but the steed was several paces ahead of them, and increasing the gap with every gallop of their ghastly hooves. Thoughthe Headless Horseman is usually harmless toSkyrimplayersthat encounter him, the Horseman ignored everyone around him as he chased after his horse.
The video was posted to the r/skyrim subreddit and received over 1.2k upvotes in less than a day. While someSkyrimplayersmade jokes at the Headless Horseman’s expense, other players shared tales about their encounters with the specter and his steed. The OP stated in the comments that they were using a mod that gave their follower a horse they will not lose as easily as the Horseman did, but they did not comment if the mod was somehow responsible for causing this funny if harmless glitch to occur or not.
Nevertheless, whileSkyrimplayers may have a tough time tracking down the Headless Horseman, those that find him seldom have a boring encounter. It remains to be seen if he will make any cameos infuture Bethesda games.
