WhileDestiny 2’s latest major expansion pack,Witch Queen, has introduced more than its fair share of novelties to the game, one of its headlining features was an all-new weapon class: the Glaives. With two Legendary Glaives and three class-specific Exotic Glaives, there’s a reasonable amount of variety present already, but the major issue is that Exotics are rather underwhelming in practice.
Destiny 2’s community figured out the Exotic Glaives' weaknesses almost as soon as the weapons were made available, and though each comes with its own class-specific gimmick, none of the three - except for the Warlock’s healing turret, perhaps - are currently viable in endgame-tier content. Bungie has now chimed in on the matter, however.

The notion thatDestiny 2’s Exotic Glaives are not worth grindinghas become pervasive in the game’s community, even though most of the game’s newWitch Queencontent has been praised in comparison. According to dmg04, one of Bungie’s community managers, the developers are well aware of this fact. “Things can take a bit of time to tune,” he said in regard to the lack of any immediate buffs or patches, but he also promised that the team will be letting the community know as soon as they have a concrete plan to make Exotic Glaives worth using.
While someplayers have already killed Rhulk with Glaives only, that doesn’t mean the weapon class is up to spec when compared with the rest ofDestiny 2’s considerable library of armaments. As is, Glaives can be powerful when paired with specific Seasonal Mods, but they’re still plagued with non-functional Perks and, in the case of Exotic Glaives, what some players consider to be gimmicks. According to dmg04, Bungie wants to avoid making “insane monsters” out of Glaives, so the team is taking balancing slowly and gathering usage data in the background.
Bungie’s community manager was also careful to mention that Exotic Glaives wouldn’t be included in this week’s TWAB blog, where Bungie usually tackles various ongoing topics and considerations relating to the game. Instead, changes to how Exotic Glaives function may be a long time coming, andplayers should get Legendary Glaives inDestiny 2instead of grinding for Exotics at this time.
It may be worth pointing out that Bungie has been on top of most of the game’s issues as of late. Updates are dropping in quickly where possible, such as in the case ofDestiny 2’s Ascendant Alloy being impossible to purchase, and the odds are good that Exotic Glaives will also have their time soon enough. Whether these changes and tweaks will be functionality overhauls or simple stat buffs, however, remains to be seen.
Destiny 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
