Treyarch may have delayedCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’sfirst season of contentuntil later in the month, but it’s still preparing players for the season’s arrival with an update than went live earlier today. Said update also brings a number of quality-of-life additions to the game but, unfortunately, it sounds as if it has brought a new problem specifically to some Xbox players.

One player, MolyneuxLuke, on Twitter revealed that after updating their version ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waron the Xbox, they received a message telling them that their Blackout Trial has ended, thus denying them access to the Blackout mode, multiplayer, and Zombies, and that they need to purchase the full game. The problem, obviously, is that MolyneuxLuke already owns the game.

What’s especially weird is that there isn’t even a Blackout mode in the game. Blackout is actually the battle-royale mode from the last game,Call of Duty: Black Ops 4,though Blackout’s Alcatraz map is rumored to be coming back forCall of Duty: Warzone.

Other players, in response to MolyneuxLuke’s post, have admitted to having the same problem and, at the time of writing, neither Treyarch or publisher Activision have yet to comment on the bug or provide a solution.

Fortunately, a temporary solution has apparently been discovered and worth trying for anyone else suffering from the issue. First, go to “Manage Games and Add-Ons” and selectBlack Ops Cold War. Check the installed items for it and ensure every item there is checked and installed. After that, simply restart the game and that should hopefully resolve the issue. Unfortunately, it’s not a guaranteed fix, with one player saying they have reinstalled six data packs and that not doing anything.

It seems as if the game has been plagued non-stop with serious bugs and other issues ever since its launch. Recently, word spread that the game had startedbricking some unlucky players' Xbox Series X consoles, prompting refund requests.

The problems aren’t unique to the Xbox either. One PlayStation 5 ownerclaimed thatCold Warwas the only PS5 game they owned that would regularly crash, before eventually bricking their console altogether. Though it could be an isolated incident, it’s nevertheless worrying for frequent players.

Issues such as these have likely contributed tothe general fan responseto the game. Though it received overall favorable reviews from critics, a quick glance at user reviews on its Metacritic page tell a different story, with all versions of the game having user scores ranging from 3.0 to 3.7.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waris available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
