WhenCall of Duty: Warzonefirst launched in 2020, it did so with the Verdansk map. Verdansk quickly became one of the most popular battle royale maps there was, with a nice variety of areas that catered to different playstyles. As the months progressed, Activision and its studios made slight changes to Verdansk to attempt to keep things fresh, while adding a new small-scale map called Rebirth Island. However, the decision was eventually made to remove Verdansk fromCall of Duty: Warzoneentirely in favor of the new Pacific map Caldera.
At the time, manyCall of Duty: Warzonefans were anxious for a new map. After all, they had been playing on Verdansk for nearly two years straight at that point, and so they were ready for some new experiences. Unfortunately, theCall of Duty: WarzoneCaldera mapfell way short of expectations, resulting in some backlash that the game has never really covered from. Those who were once asking for a newWarzonemap started to ask for Verdansk to make a comeback, and it seems that they’ll be getting their wish, but there’s a catch.

According to Activision’s Alex Summers,Call of Duty: Warzonewill be bringing back Verdansk at some point in 2023, but only on “certain platforms.” TheCall of Duty: Warzonemobile game is rumored to feature Verdansk, so it’s entirely possible that is what Summers is referring to, so those hoping to see it make a comeback on PC and consoles should keep their expectations in check.
Then again, it wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility for Verdansk to return to the mainCall of Duty: Warzonegame. After all, theCaldera map is unpopular with fans, and it has even turned away some of the hardcore competitive players andWarzonecontent creators. Bringing Verdansk back could see lapsed players return to the game and reinvigorate theCall of Duty: Warzonecommunity.
The other thing to consider is that aCall of Duty: Warzonesequel is in development, believed to be releasing alongside the 2022Call of Dutygame later this year. Thisnew version ofWarzonemight be next-gen onlyand will presumably feature a new map, but maybe it will take the battle royale back to its roots and feature a new take on Verdansk. However, this is just speculation at this time, and so fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
