Summary
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3already has a lot of expectations surrounding its campaign, with the title potentially being the last entry to the sub-franchise reboot. A lot of the recently revealed information for the game is focused around its single player, indicating that Sledgehammer Games has big plans for the title’s story.
WhileCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3will have to include a lot of its own unique material to cap off the overarching plot, a lot of inspiration can still be taken from some of the most memorable pastModern Warfaresequences. The reboot has not shied away from already doing this, but there is still a great wealth of iconicMWmoments thatModern Warfare 3can portray.

Modern Warfare 2 Moments That Modern Warfare 3 Could Borrow
Despite a reimagined version ofModern Warfare 2only releasing last year, there were many iconic moments from the original that slipped through the cracks. One particular sequence fromModern Warfare 2that is ripe for portrayal inMW3is the infamous “No Russian” mission.
Often cited as the most controversial mission inCall of Duty’s history, “No Russian” saw players go undercover during a devastating terrorist attack on an airport masterminded by Vladimir Makarov. WithMakarov being set for a big role inModern Warfare 3, it only makes sense that the game should make an overt nod to “No Russian” with a similar experience of its own.

Less controversial elements ofMW2are of course just as deserving of homages withinModern Warfare 3. Missions like“Cliffhanger,” which saw Soap and Roach infiltrate a mountainous military encampmentand end up in a daring snowmobile escape, perfectly encapsulate the bombasticCoDexperience that should be carried over toMW3. TheModern Warfarereboot has yet to do justice to harsh snowy settings, andMW3could rectify this with its own take on “Cliffhanger.”
As well as this, the EMP moment in the originalModern Warfare 2conveyed the scale of the game’s escalating conflict. Playing as a kind of interactive cutscene from the view of an unnamed astronaut aboard the ISS, it would be remiss ofMW3to feature a similar scale-setting moment of its own.
Campaign Moments That Modern Warfare 3 Could Take From the Original
It only seems right that the upcomingModern Warfare 3should respect a lot of the most gripping and memorable moments of its 2011 source material. Most of the firstMW3’s campaign focused on large-scale global conflict in World War 3, with the story of the inbound release likely following these same kinds of stakes.
In particular,Modern Warfare 3should involve sequences featuring the same kind of iconic landmarks as the original. Some of the most visceral moments in the original campaign involved the fall of the Eiffel Tower, or fighting to the roof of a crumbling White House for evacuation. Nods to these experiences would be right at home inModern Warfare 3, which will need these kinds of hard-hitting segments for a climax to such a complex and long-spanning narrative.
The firstModern Warfaregameshave so any memorable moments that it would be impossible forModern Warfare 3to make reference to all of them. While it is important that the game portrays its own unique identity, there are some clear massive moments from the likes of the originalMW2andMW3that would be a perfect fit for nods in the upcoming release.
