Controlhas been lauded as one of thebest games of 2019, and developer Remedy Entertainment celebrated that by dropping its second big update for the game at the same time as The Game Awards. In addition, Remedy shared some extra information about the paidControlDLC it plans to release early next year.

Remedy first announcedthe new end-game mode called Expeditions back in September, along with a photo mode that went live in early autumn. Expeditions is the second out of four planned content updates, with the final two being premium story expansions.

While Expeditions doesn’t have new story content, it is designed to throw a whole host of challenges at players who have finished the game and allows them to score unique mods of Rare, Absolute, and Prime rarities. The game mode takesJesse (Control’s protagonist)into an alternate dimension filled with the Hiss and connected to the Black Rock Quarry, and once inside players will have to defeat enemies within the 25-minute period of time that Expedition allows. There are three difficulty tiers for players to choose from; Tier One costs one jukebox token to activate, Tier Two costs three tokens, and Tier Three costs five. As can be expected, the quality of the loot goes up with the expedition’s difficulty level, and successfully completing every expedition will win players one final prize.

At the same time, Remedy also gave a little information about the premium DLC that’ll follow the last two free updates; the first of these, called The Foundation, explores the history of the Oldest House and is set to launch on Jun 19, 2025. The second planned DLC is titled AWE, a name which has led to plenty of speculation about whether or not it’ll betied to Alan Wake–the star of another Remedy game–in some way. Currently, Remedy has only said that in AWE players will venture into the Investigations Sector, a new area of the Oldest House, the Investigations Sector, in which Altered World Events are closely studied.

Regardless of whether Alan Wake will have a role inControl’s expansions, Remedy has assured players that they can expect new content to “get weird.” ConsideringControlisall about weird, that sounds promising for fans of the game awaiting a new story to explore.

Controlis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
