A new playable character called Bruno has just been unveiled forDead Island 2. In the trailer, gamers can learn more about Bruno’s main skills ahead of the launch ofDead Island 2on April 28.

InDead Island 2, players will need to use several skills to survive in an infested version of Los Angeles which is crawling with zombies. The title is the sequel to the originalDead Island, released over a decade ago, and ithas changed its release date several times now. Initially announced back in 2014, the game had a troubled development, changing developers and starting from scratch quite a few times. It started with Yager Development back in 2012, but then was replaced by Sumo Digital in 2015, and finally by Dambuster in 2019.

The new character Bruno will bring unique abilities to the table, such as backstabbing, and rapid reprisal, meaning that he will be efficient in taking enemies by surprise and counter-attacking. In the trailer, he’s described as a Los Angeles hustler who loves “being challenged” and really hates corruption. There are also a few short scenes in which it’s possible to see the character in action duringDead Island 2’s brutal and gory combat. For instance, in one scene, gamers can see how Bruno quickly dodges an attack and counterattacks with a ranged weapon.

Despite not really having in-depth information about what the gameplay from Bruno will look like compared to other characters, it’s already known thatDead Island 2will not have skill treeslike the previous title, but use a more modular system instead. In this new system, which resembles a card game, characters can use a Skill Deck to equip and ditch abilities at will during the action, which the developers hope will translate into fluid, entertaining gameplay. Each character, such as Bruno, will have unique moves, and be able to combine them to perform combos.

At the moment, a few other characters have been officially announced, too, each one with innovative abilities that will help them to stand out among the rooster ofDead Island 2characters. One of themost recent reveals is Carla. She’s a mechanic from the City of Angels and has abilities such as Dig Deep and Mosh Pit, which are strong attacks that can be lashed out on zombies, hitting many of them at the same time. She’s really into adrenaline and hates being bored. So, just like Bruno, this is yet another character that keeps the light-hearted, comical tone of the first game.

Dead Island 2launches on July 27, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
