It might be the worst kept secret in all ofDestiny 2right now, but more and more evidence builds to suggest thatTrials of Osiris is returning. In fact, today’s latest revelations all but confirm that Trials will be back next season.
While today’sDestiny 2update may have caused plenty of problems for players and Bungie needed totake the servers offline for emergency maintenance, some players were able to dig into the updated files and extract some new information. Within those files was a new dialogue line (or message board post) that tells players: “With the restoration of the Lighthouse complete, Trials of Osiris and more will return in Season of the Worthy.”

The Season of the Worthy part has been in the game files forDestiny 2for a while – although players couldn’t say for sure whether it was the name of the next season – but the Trials dialogue is new. There have been other references to Trials of Osiris found withinDestiny 2, though, but they were merely hints. For example, a weird glitch with thedirector would show a scorecardthat looked very similar to Trials of Osiris, but only briefly.
There were also external hints thatTrials of Osiris PvP modeis returning, like Bungie flying out some popular Trials streamers (from the D1 days) to its studio. Because those participants were under NDA they couldn’t say what they played or gave feedback on, but one of those streamers, RealKraftyy, has been playing a lot ofDestiny 2since his visit. Some believed that he was saying something without actually telling anyone that Trials of Osiris was returning.
But now players can start preparing for Trials of Osiris’ return and what that will bring to the game. The hope is that Season of the Worthy will include a major PvP balance patch, as Destiny 2’s Crucible has been in a less than ideal state for a while now. On top of that, PC players would love to seeBungie implement stronger anti-cheat measures, or else Trials of Osiris will be lousy with players that can teleport around the map and avoid damage (without using the new immunity glitch).
For non-PvP fans there is also the promise of “more” returning in Season of the Worthy. What that could mean – whether it’s new modes or returning modes fromDestiny 2orDestiny 1’s past – is unclear but considering the details are starting to appear in the game files, Bungie might have more to say soon.
