In Season 14 ofDestiny 2,Bungie introduced one of players' most-requested features, an Armor Synthesis transmog system for gear appearances. The system allows players to collectDestiny 2gear visuals, unlocking them permanently. However, Bungie’s implementation of the Armor Synthesis system has instead led to significant backlash due to restrictive time-gating and monetization. While Bungie has yet to make changes,Destiny 2players continue to offer feedback in the hope that they’ll be heard.

OneDestiny 2player recently shared their idea for how to improve the Armor Synthesis system. The post has picked up over 9,000 upvotes onReddit’s biggestDestiny 2community, showing widespread support for the change. The simple idea is stated in the Reddit post’s title, “There should 100% be transmog currency in the season pass.” In other words, theDestiny 2players believe that players who spend money supporting Bungie through seasonal passes should receive some of the monetized transmog currency given to them.

The aspect of theDestiny 2transmog systemthat players take issue with is that only so many transmogs can be unlocked for free. In order to unlock further transmogs, players either have to wait extended periods of time or they have to spend real money. What the Redditor is saying is that many players are already paying to support the ongoing development ofDestiny 2. It only makes sense for Bungie to reward those players by not pushing them into further monetization.

There’s clearly some confirmation bias going on in the Reddit thread, of course. The people visiting theDestiny 2thread are the same people who are already buyingDestiny 2’s season passes. As such, the thread is being upvoted by players saying Bungie should give them more transmogs without having to pay more money. It’s not so different from the typical feedback that says Bungie shouldn’t be monetizing this feature in the first place.

That sentiment happens to be the most upvoted comment in the Reddit thread. “Transmog should be free and unlimited like any other game,” is the top comment, with dozens of replies fromDestiny 2players agreeing with him. The thread as a whole has grown into an opportunity forDestiny 2players to vent theirfrustrations over Bungie’s decision to monetize transmogs.

Bungie has, unfortunately, made no indication that it will be changingDestiny 2’s transmog system in the future. Not only would Bungie have to admit fault, but there are likely manyDestiny 2playerswho have already spent money that Bungie would have to either refund or reward. Bungie should know better than anyone, though, that these controversies are unlikely to go away until some kind of compromise is reached.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
