A newDestiny 2expansion means plenty of new content for players to dig their teeth into, not the least of which is a new suite of weapons to grind for.The Witch Queenis bringing a new twist on this grind with the introduction of weapon crafting to give players more direct control over the weapons in their arsenal. However, there will still be plenty of new and returning weapons to chase when the expansion releases, the latter of which will see the return ofDestiny’s weapon foundries to the game.
The Witch Queen is the latest expansion toDestiny 2which will pit guardians against Savathun, the Hive god of cunning, who has mysteriously obtained the Light and all its powers. Players will need to call on a suite of new and returning weapons, along with refreshed abilities, to hunt down the titular Hive queen and take back the Light. However, standing between players and Savathun is her Lucent Brood, Hive imbued with the Light and the abilities it comes with.

In the latest This Week atBungie, the studio took a deep dive into the overall weapon refresh coming to the game as part of The Witch Queen. The loot refresh mentioned above will mark the return of the Hakke, Veist, Omolon, and Suros weapon foundries to the game with “12 new weapons in the style of theDestiny 2Year-1 foundry weapon sets” to replace the existing world loot pool. An additional foundry weapon will also be available in Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit as the respective playlist weapon.
The foundry weapons, as with the other new and returning weapons, will take advantage of the new Origin Traits available to all weapons in The Witch Queen’s overall loot pool. Alongside the activity Origin Traits, foundry weapons will have appropriately-themed Origin Traits reflecting the foundries' identities. Two of the traits previewed in the TWAB includeSurosSynergy, where reloading grants bonus handling reduces incoming flinch for six seconds, and Omolon Fluid Dynamics, which grants the weapon increased reload speed and stability for the top half of the magazine.
Bungie added foundry weapons that drop in the world pool will come with the one origin trait while drops from playlist activities will have the choice between the foundry and activity traits.
The loot pool refresh like this is the norm forDestiny 2as one usually coincides with the release of a new expansion, such as Shadowkeep orBeyond Light. However, the return of foundry weapons is a welcome one as it reflects Bungie’s message in the TWAB to give weapons more unique identities, regardless if players crafted it or got a god-roll to drop in Trials of Osiris.
Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
