The universe ofDestinyhas seen plenty of enemies players have done battle with across the stars, and while Bungie isn’t bringing an entire new enemy race to bear inDestiny 2: Lightfall, a player shares their take on how to accomplish this in the following expansion,The Final Shape.Lightfallwill see the introduction of a single new enemy type in the Tormentors, hulking servants of the Witness aiding in the invasion of Neomuna byCalus and the Shadow Legion. However, an entire new race does not appear to be on the horizon and the player in question wasn’t shy in sharing their fatigue with the current races.

Destiny 2’s current roster of enemy races are comprised of the Fallen, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, and Scorn, with the first four being the foundational races introduced in vanillaDestiny. The Taken would be introduced inDestiny: The Taken Kingas twisted, altered versions of various units from the original four races. As for the Scorn, they would be added inDestiny 2: Forsakenand are zombified-Fallen resurrected, in lore, by the Fanatic with the use of Dark Ether.

As the Scorn and Taken have both been described as reskinned versions of existing enemies, some members of theDestinycommunity continue to ask and speculate as to when a fully-new race will be added to the game. Bungie has typically been quiet on this front, with the only hints to possible enemy races being found in random lore bits andearly concept art for the originalDestiny. Given this silence on Bungie’s end, Reddit user Aquamorinax took the initiative to offer a possible idea on how to introduce a “new race” by striking a middle ground between reskinning existing enemy units and brand new enemy designs. The example Aqua offers of their idea is taking a Fallen Servitor as the foundational design and reworking it into a Pyramid-style enemy with an attack similar to the one seen inLightfall’s launch trailer. Aqua argues this approach could make developing a “new race” easier than creating a new race from the ground up as it would allow Bungie to lean on existing designs and mechanics. They then point to the Heavy Warmind Frames seen in Season of the Worthy and the ending mission of Season of the Seraph as proof of this idea in practice, describing the frames as “just reskinned Hive ogres.”

Despite Aqua’s argument in favor of this approach, it would not be surprising if it ended up being divisive among theDestinycommunity. Some players could argue Bungie already recycles too much content, recently pointing to theNeomuna weaponswhich appear to be reskinned Luna weapons fromShadowkeepas just one example. However, other players may counter this by pointing to the general difficulties of development and this approach could kill two birds with one stone forThe Final Shape’s release.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
