Destiny 2’s new Strike-specific scoring system is leading many to resort to exploiting their way to a particular score to progress their Guardian Rank status, leading to player dissatisfaction. Many endgame-tier encounters ofDestiny 2received a facelift in the form of a modified scoring system alongside a difficulty tweak in Lightfall. However, player feedback suggests the developers miscalculated the evaluation parameters in the new Strike and the returning Heist Battleground: Mars, with even the most skilled players struggling to achieve a particular score without exploiting a game mechanic.
Strikes have long been considered the primary gateway activity for any new player dipping their toe or a returning player to familiarize themselves with the ever-changing world ofDestiny. For those who wish to test themselves against challenging combatants for a better selection of rewards, Nightfall Strikes are the perfect activity with selectable difficulty tiers to allow a gradual progression through the ranks. The introduction of the Grandmaster mode serves as the pinnace of the Nightfall ladder, oftentimes compared to thedifficulty ofDestiny 2’s Contest mode Raidsdue to the challenging combatants and limited revives available.

One ofLightfall’s newest addition toDestiny 2is the Guardian Rank system, where players have to complete specific tasks to increase their mastery over the game’s challenges. One of the tasks required to progress this mastery system is to achieve a 200,000 score in a single Nightfall Strike of Master or higher difficulty. In a Reddit post upvoted by over 1400 community members, user Soulweez13 vented their frustrations at the developers for designing the new HyperNet Current Strike in such a way that players had to throw themselves off the edge and get revived by teammates to generate the necessary points. The user elaborated on the design flaw of the Strike itself for not having enough combatants to kill to reach the point threshold naturally and instead players are generating orbs and using other arbitrary methods to increase points.
The issue has resulted in a large portion of the community voicing their displeasure over the situation as well. Some players have indicated that the previous week’s Heist Battleground: Mars also suffered from a scoring issue, with the multiplier being so low that players had to endure several grueling runs to reach the weekly quota. Many players have indicated howDestiny 2’s new Commendation Score system also sufferedfrom such an instance, before being rectified.
Destiny 2: Lightfallhas been a hotbed of controversysince its launch, and issues such as these are not helping the situation at all. Players are eager to see whether this becomes the norm going forward or if Bungie will reassess the scoring situation in a future update.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
