Destiny 2: Lightfallis coming out very soon, and amidst all the excitement over its release, veteranDestinyplayers have suggested that the all-new Strand abilities may cause some confusion and resentment between players upon launch. Notably, the new green set of abilities is all about communicating interconnectedness, mobility, and synergy. Still, some believe it will take a while until the player base gets used to Strand after all.

Destiny 2’s thrilling arrival of the Witnessmarks one of the biggest, most notable events in franchise history, with the finale of the Light and Dark saga finally kicking off. To battle the mind in control of the Darkness, player Guardians will need to leverage a force never seen before: the Strand. According to Bungie’s own explanation of how some aspects of Strand will work, though, there may be some issues ahead.

Specifically, Reddit user Brockelley has highlighted the fact that the Strand Tangles - strange floating orbs that players can interact with - share a lot of functionality withDestiny 2’s now-removed Warmind Cells. Guardians will be able to spawn Strand Tangles in a variety of ways, throw them around, and even blow them up to activate a variety of different effects. The potential synergy problems, however, may come up when players spec their loadouts into interaction with different aspects of Tangles themselves. Some, warns Brockelley, may prefer to keep Tangles around, while others may need to blow them up as soon as possible. This could very well cause tension in endgame-tier content. Bungie did promise that Strand shouldn’t be problematic forDestiny 2to such an extent as the seminal launch of Stasis abilities was back in 2021, but Brockelley’s concerns may well be worth considering. Players responding to the original Reddit thread mirrored many of the author’s thoughts, saying that they’re worried about players stealing their Strand Tangles or, alternatively, about themselves accidentally triggering the wrong effect by using area-of-effect weaponry and the like.

It’s not hard to see why most players would be thrilled about the prospect of finally using Strand.Destiny 2is adding a Strand grappling hook, for example, which may well prove instrumental in bolstering the game’s already impressive set of movement abilities. Since Tangles seem to be instrumental for Strand in combat, however, some friction may be inevitable as the player base figures out how to best handle them when players spec to use them in different ways.

Whatever the case may be, thecreation of Strand inDestiny 2will be a fascinating process to behold. Guardians will, according to Bungie, be the first faction to use this aspect of the Darkness, making its use against the Witness an incredibly important moment for the franchise’s lore and beyond.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. TheLightfallDLC is coming out on February 28 across all platforms.
