Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance was relatively light in content in order to better account for the multitude of changes and new activities introduced with its accompanying expansion, Lightfall. Still, Bungie is soon to introduce a mid-Season patch that includes plenty of relevant changes to the sandbox, buffing andnerfingDestiny 2’s weaponsacross the board and even introducing a new Commendation based on player feedback. On top of that, the upcoming Season of the Deep will bring even more goodies for players to look forward to, including a slew of new and old guns added to the main playlist activities, including Gambit and Iron Banner.
Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep returning weaponswill likely hold a special place in many Guardians' Vaults and arsenal thanks to their historic value, such as Randy’s Throwing Knife, a beloved scout rifle that was sunset a while ago. Yet, there will be also new guns for players to toy with, including an Arc glaive and a Strand fusion rifle, with the latter being very likely a great addition toDestiny 2Guardians' arsenal because of the value of Special ammo Strand weapons in the kinetic slot. However, among the various new weapons coming with Season of the Deep, Gambit got the short end of the stick.

Destiny 2’s New Season of the Deep Gambit Weapon is Disappointing
Gambit is arguably the least popular ofDestiny 2’s playlist activities, which is possibly the result of many ill-fated changes that changed both the pace and the gameplay loop itself of the PvPvE mode. In fact, after losing its maps to content vaulting, Gambit was left in a state of limbo where it never got new ones, leaving players with a total of four locations on a random rotation. Then, the changes made to how invading the opposing team’s map works and ammo economy further cemented the idea that Gambit matches can easily be determined by an invader’s Gjallarhorn, for example, which is far from ideal.
As it stands, Gambit would probably need a major rework for it to see the limelight, but it also poses the question of how much work this would require and if it makes sense for Bungie to invest in a game mode that players rarely express love for. With Season of the Deep introducing new playlist-dedicated weapons to the game, it would have been the perfect time forDestiny 2’s Gambitto get some love, but this wasn’t the case.
Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion brought many changes to the sandbox, including a tidal wave of buffs and nerfs that drove players to reconsider their options for their Heavy slot. Linear fusion rifles were hit particularly hard by these changes, and they went from the best and most sought-after weapon category for boss damage inDestiny 2to one of the least desired. As such, Season of the Deep adding only a Strand linear fusion rifle to Gambit not only undermines the value of the mode, but it makes it pale in comparison to others, such as Iron Banner, the Crucible, and regular Strikes.
While a Strand linear fusion rifle would have been the best of news forDestiny 2playersbefore Lightfall, it’s now more likely to be perceived as token representation for Strand buildcrafting, as there are better options out there already. A Strand rocket launcher, for example, would have made Gambit much more enticing, and thus it would have revitalized the mode going intoDestiny 2’s Season 21. With Gambit always being on the brink of collapse, seeing how much more valued a given player’s time is when trying other modes, it seems that Season of the Deep’s new weapon has only sealed the fate of the Drifter’s arena for three more months, at the very least.
Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
