Dread Hungeris a fantasticmultiplayer survival gamefilled with betrayal, exploration, and some unforeseen tactics from certain players. One such tactic to both take out some players or continue that exploration is the Powder Keg. It’s essentially an explosive barrel that can bring down icebergs, kill other player characters, or destroy boats when necessary.

All this makes it a particularly useful item to craft and use, but it’s a bit complicated to master, despite being relatively easy to craft and detonate. Luckily there are a few ways to effectively use a Powder Keg that will get rid of any pesky Thralls or wipe the crew out once and for all if chaos is the agenda. If not, then it will allow that treacherous journey to continue past that seemingly unavoidable iceberg.
How To Make A Powder Keg
Luckily, making a Powder Kegisn’t a huge challenge, so long as the player has the right ingredients and the dedication to both find and correctly craft this recipe.
Essentially, the Powder Keg inDread Hungerrequires players to first make a barrel. This can be done by finding:

Once the barrel has been made, the player will need to add gunpowder. The amount players choose to put in will depend on the power they desire. It can have a maximum of30 pieces of gunpowder for the most powerful explosion. However, the beginning of the game may make finding that much gunpowder a bit of a challenge.
It’s also worth knowing that9 gunpowderwill take a player downand16 will kill them instantly. Although they will need to be relatively near it for this to take full effect.

Where To Get The Items
Before being able to use the Powder Keg inDread Hunger, players will first need to find the required items. Some are much easier than others but the majority of them will be granted to the player through exploration and just going through the game.
Nevertheless, players can getLead Ingotsby searching through supplies onlifeboats, in ammo storage, or inside Sailor’s Chests. It cannot be crafted but it’s not an uncommon finding asthe crew traverses the frozen wasteland.

Sticksare much more common and it’s likely the crew will already have some. If they don’t, then simplybreak apart a wood sled, a wood crate, or a grave marker. Alternatively, players can look aroundthe environment they are in.They will likely find what they need.
Lastly, the players will need to find or craftGunpowder. The easiest way this can be done is bygrabbing some coaland crafting it into Gunpowder. One coal will make one Gunpowderso it will take up a fair amount of resources if the crew intends to create a multitude of Powder Kegs.

How To Use A Powder Keg
Many players would expect the Powder Keg to be an explosive barrel that can cause damage to both players and the game’s ship, or other elements should they so choose it. They would be right but it’s much more interesting than a simple explosive device. As long as the player knows how to use it.

In its simplest form, the player will need toplace the Powder Keg into the positionthey want to explore andclick on the barrel. Doing so will prompt acracked square to pop up. Click that and players will havearound ten seconds to get out of there before it blows. Or, players can shoot it for an instant explosion, but that takes a lot of accuracy and careful planning.
When To Use A Powder Keg
Using a Powder Keg effectively is a real challenge. It has a relatively small blast radius so when players don’t put too much Gunpowder in they can’t expect it to do a large amount of damage, especially to a person innocently walking by.
However, when using the Powder Keg to destroy the ship, players will need to take accuracy, ingredients, anda little bit of stealth into consideration. This is primarily due to the range of explosion and the fact that the amount of gunpowder directly resonates with the number of holes the player can deal with towards the ship. However, that reaches a maximum of 20 so it’s worth ignoring the maximum amount players can put inside the barrel itself.
Ultimately, players can use the Powder Keg in a multitude of ways but it’s likely to be most effective when destroying icebergs and other objects in the crew’s way rather than being a damaging bomb. This is primarily due to the timing it takes to blow up and the fact that it’s relatively easy to diffuse.
Getting that timing right as well as the perfect amount of damage is a challenge that many consider isn’t worth it.
