A few months have gone by since rumors began to circulate that the next era ofDungeons and Dragonswas much closer than originally anticipated. Whether that next evolution will come in the form of DnD 5.5, DnD 6.0, or justadditional rule books with optional changes to the core systemis still unclear. That said, players may be learning a little bit more next week during the upcoming D&D Direct.
The popular TTRPG will be hosting an action-packed event on April 21 to highlight what is happening for the franchise throughout 2022 and beyond. The event isn’t just going to be concentrating on the tabletop experience either. Fans of theDungeons and Dragonsfranchise can expect updates related tobooks, video games, entertainment, and all things DnD-related when the stream kicks off.

Fans will be able to tune in through the officialDungeons and DragonsTwitch or YouTube channels. The activities kick off on April 21 at 9am PT, so fans may want to mark their calendars and block off some time for the full event now. The teaser doesn’t offer many specific details about what will be covered, but some fans may be able to develop some theories from the short promo video…

Dungeons and Dragonshas a big year or so on the way between the rumored major additions to the current TTRPG and thestar-studdedDungeons and Dragonsfilmthat is currently scheduled to arrive in 2023. Whether the first teaser for that movie could drop or not during the event is something fans are currently debating, but we’ll all have to wait until April 21 to find out. At the very least, hopefully TTRPG fans can expect to learn some additional details about the next source books that are coming throughout the rest of the year an perhaps some teasers about what 2023 has in store.
Earlier this week it was announced that Hasbro purchasedDnD Beyondfrom Fandom, so there’s always the chance some announcements could be made surrounding that platform and its offerings, as well. Bringing beyond one step closer to the parent company could in theory make it more realistic to somehow tie purchases of physical copies to the digital platform (or at least offer some kind of discount for double-dipping).
