In a heated battle withElden Ring’s first boss, Margit, the Fell Omen, a first-time player met defeat at the worst possible moment. About a year and a half afterElden Ringlaunched to unfathomable universal acclaim, new players are entering the Lands Between for the first time, many of whom will come into contact with the mighty Omen who stands before Stormveil Castle.

The first area ofElden Ring’s massive open world, Limgrave, is home to Stormveil Castle, a giant fortress surrounded by gusting winds and dark green skies which holds many valuable items for players to discover. Before players can get inside to explore it, they must go through the game’s first skill check and major boss Margit, the Fell Omen, who wields a large staff as well as an arsenal of golden light weapons. While there’s ahidden path around the right side of Stormveilthat ultimately renders Margit and the entire castle optional, many first time Tarnished won’t realize this and must take on Margit in order to gain access to the intricate castle and later, their first shardbearer.

Reddit user and first timeElden Ringplayer 65dollars posted a video of them squaring up with a Margit who’s one sneeze away from biting the dust. The player mistimesMargit’s second phase hammer slamand is brought to within an inch of life themself. The player backs up to go for a swig of health only to find their flask empty. With both parties hanging onto life by a thread and Margit making his final approach, the player nervously squares up once more.

Margit begins his windup and instead of dodging, the player starts a swing of their own just a millisecond later. Both of them land fatal blows on each other at the exact same time with the player seeing thedreadful “You Died” pop-upbefore the more exciting “Great Enemy Felled” message graces their screen. While it’s an unfortunate moment, Margit is confirmed to be slain and the player is free to move on to explore the secrets of Stormveil Castle.

Any seasoned Souls veteran knows that dodging boss attacks and survivability is more important than dealing damage in most cases. However, in that moment when a really tough boss has only a smidge of health left, it’s very easy to let best practices slip out the window in favor of lunging wildly to get that one last hit. It seems likeMargit the Fell Omen is still giving new players plenty of hellas Stormveil Castle’s bouncer.

Elden Ringis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
