Almost every year since the inception of theCall of Dutyfranchise, a new game has been released. However, 2023 is set to be the year that throw this pattern into disarray. With no majorCall of Dutydrop officially slated for this year, many are looking ahead to 2024 when it’s expected that a Treyarch-ledCall of Dutytitle will be released.

Treyarch job postings for its upcoming projects offer hints that theiconicCall of DutyZombiesmode will be returning, as expected. While the Zombie mode inCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waris touted as one of the franchise’s finest, itsVanguarditeration was largely criticized by fans. In order to make good on its next effort, Treyarch should look closely to past titles for inspiration, bringing forward some tried-and-true enemy types while leaving others in the past.

Call of Duty 2024 Should Revive Bomber Zombies and Other Rhythm Disruptors

One of the major complaints about theCall of Duty: VanguardZombies modewas that it played things too safe and rehashed old maps without enough new content. WhenCall of Duty 2024reaches back into its predecessors' roster of zombies, it needs to pull out exciting, memorable enemies. The first place it should look isCall of Duty: WW2.

WhileCall of Duty: WW2is often overlookedin the overall catalog ofCall of Dutytitles, there are a ton of exciting and original ideas to be found there. For its Zombie mode,Call of Duty 2024needs to revive the Bomber zombie; a conjoined zombie with the back half carrying an enormous bomb. Not only is it an iconic design, but the Bomber zombie forces players to rethink their strategy and can completely throw off their rhythm, upping the difficulty of any given round.

Valkyrie Drones Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Zombies

Another enemy that could be pulled fromCall of Duty: WW2’s Zombie modeis the Wustling. Essentially a lumbering, durable zombie that deals extra damage, the Wustling functions the same purpose as the Bomber zombie in that it forces players to constantly reassess their enemy prioritization.

Call of Duty 2024 Should Leave Enemies Like Valkyrie Drones and Denizens in the Past

There’s a reason thatCall of Duty: Black Ops 3Zombies remains popularalmost a decade after its release. It paired memorable maps with balanced enemies into what is often considered one of the finest examples of the Zombie mode. Unfortunately, it also contains one of the most maligned enemies in the mode’s history: the Valkyrie Drone. Not only do the Valkyrie Drones feel at-odds with the general aesthetic of the map, they also have a pesky habit of ruining late-round runs with their predictable but strange attack pattern.

An enemy that pops up even more frequently in fans' criticisms of Zombie maps is the Denizen. Along with the Avogadro, the Denizens are often cited as the reason for Tranzit being one ofthe worstCall of DutyZombie maps. The Denizens can only be found in the fog between areas on Tranzit and offer no points to players upon defeat, so fans theorize the Denizens were only added to slow down traversal between areas and allow the map to load. Regardless, their repetitive nature, annoying behavior, and lack of reward place them as one of the worst enemies in Zombies, which ultimately means that they are better left in the past.
