In theFalloutfranchise, bottle caps are a way of life. As the standard currency in mostFalloutgames, caps are necessary when purchasing items that will help players survive the post-apocalyptic landscape of the United States. However, like any survival game, players must be very thoughtful of how and when caps are spent, as it can be a matter of life and death. It takesa lot of time and effort to grindif players aren’t careful, particularly when caps are spent on items that aren’t worthwhile.

Big Boy weapon in Fallout 4

TheFalloutfranchise can be unkind when it comes to the cost of certain weapons, armor, and other items. As a result, they can often be highly overpriced for what they are, leaving players that need more caps in sticky situations. While there are ways to farm caps in the games, it doesn’t take away the sting of some ofFallout’s most overpriced items.

7Big Boy

The Big Boy is a staple weapon inFallout 4, but the eye-watering price of 5,012 caps can be hard to swallow. This is because players can only get the weaponfrom Arturo Rodriguez in Diamond City. Granted, it can launch two nukes at once, but the Nuka-Nuke Launcher from theNuka WorldDLC is 650 caps and deals 50% more damage thanks to the power of Quantum-enhanced ammo.

Players can find the Nuka-Nuke launcher in John-Caleb Bradberton’s office after the Cappy in a Haystack quest. In contrast, the Fat Man can be found in various locations across The Commonwealth inFallout 4.

Dr Mobius' Scrubs in Fallout New Vegas Old World Blues DLC

6Dr. Mobius' Scrubs

In theFallout: New VegasDLCOld World Blues, the Courier can stumble upon the Forbidden Zone dome in the Big MT Research Facility, where Doctor Mobius exiled himself. Players can find Mobius’ scrubs there, a one-of-a-kind item that offers a variety of boosts in Charisma, Science, and Intelligence.

Despite being able to obtain the scrubs for free inFallout: New Vegas, they can sell for an exuberant amount at 7,500 caps. This is second to Doctor Klien’s scrubs, found in Higgs Village and sold for 6,000 caps. Selling both outfits is a brilliant way to farm caps if players need them. However, they’re both one-of-a-kind items, so players need to carefully consider whether they want to part ways with the scrubs, particularly because of the boosts they provide.

5Clean Spacesuit

Fallout 76offers a wide array of armor and outfits for players in the West Virginian Wasteland. Still, none are more overpriced thanthe rare Clean Space Suit. As cool and retro as it looks, the cosmetic item will run players upwards of 300 to 400 caps for something that doesn’t even provide any boosts or protection.

There’s also an orange variant of the outfit exclusive to theFallout 76microtransaction store,The Atomic Shop. The Space Suit costs 800 Atoms, which, in real money, is roughly $7.99. Of course, it’s worth noting that players can also obtain Atoms for free in-game as rewards for leveling up their S.C.O.R.E. rank in the current season. Either way, it’s definitely overpriced for what it is.

4Fusion Core

Running out of fusion corescan leave players in a sticky situation inFallout 4, especially when the Sole Survivor’s power armor is in dire need of one. Even though players can find them littered across The Commonwealth in fusion generators, sometimes heading to a vendor is the only way to get one fast.

Buying one fusion core from a vendor like Arturo. but if they want to stock up on them, this can quickly run into the thousands. Thankfully, the mechanics of finding fusion cores have been improved upon inFallout 76, as players can find them much more readily around West Virginia and can also craft them at chemistry stations.

3Zealot Marine Armour

Fallout 4’sFar HarborDLCprovided players with an abundance of new weapons and outfits to use during their playthrough, including the Marine armor. Previously worn by marines on the USSDemocracy, there are three different versions that the Sole Survivor can find on Mount Desert Island. The most expensive is the Zealot set, which becomes available after unlocking DiMA’s last memory in the Best Left Forgotten quest.

Once unlocked, players can find parts of the armor in steamer trunks in ships. The only other way to obtain the complete set (excluding the helmet) is from Kane, the armor vendor forthe Children of Atom in the Nucleus. He sells the Zealot armor for 930 caps, which is relatively overpriced, seeing as players can find it for free throughout the area.

2House Upgrades

Once the Lone Wanderer disarms the Megaton bomb during The Power of the Atom Quest inFallout 3, the My Megaton House residence is available to renovate with several different themes. Each theme and other home improvements can be bought from Moira at Megaton’s Craterside Supply, but at an exorbitant price for just some decor. The six themes cost 1,414 caps each, though, thankfully, the Barter skill can lower the price.

As for the home improvements, they too are similarly overpriced, like My First Infirmary for 1,199 caps and My First Laboratory for 1,615 caps. Again, these prices can be lowered with a high Barter skill in addition to the Master Trader perk. Despite the high price point, these improvements also offer helpful services to The Lone Wanderer in terms of healing and clearing radiation inFallout 3.

1The Last Minute

A more powerful variant of the Gauss rifle, this bad boy costs a whopping 6,500 caps. The Last Minute is only available for purchase by Ronnie Shaw at the Castle once the Old Guns quest is completed. Ronnie sure knows how to get his money’s worth, especially since the actual Gauss rifle is only 228 caps.

The Last Minute may be one of the most overpriced items inFallout, but it is an incredible weapon, particularly with its Crippling effect, which causes 50% more limb damage. On top of that, it comes with a bunch of mods like a shielded barrel, a capacitor-boosting coil, a long night vision scope, and compensators.
