It’s no secret that many families in America are struggling to make ends meet during these difficult times, especially withCOVID effects on various industries. One parent, in particular, suffered an unspeakable nightmare of losing years of their family’s life savings almost overnight. Her son secretly donated $20,000 to Twitch streamers.

The mother in question, who decided to remain anonymous to protect her son’s identity, noticed that $19,870.94 was charged to her debit card and given out to variouspopular Twitch streamers such as Tfue, Gorb, and Ewokttv. While the mother was able to retrieve most of the lost money, multiple companies made the experience a more difficult task than it should have been.

First, the mother tried filling out the online help form with Twitch but never received a response. After that didn’t work, she tried contactingTwitch CEO Emmett Shearand Amazon’s legal team, which also yielded the same result. The mother comments that the cold shoulder she received, and the inability to speak to anyone directly was probably the most frustrating thing about this experience.

Luckily for the parent, after making ananonymous Reddit post, another parent with a similar problem gave her a tip to contact Xsolla. This paying service company is partners with Twitch and helps with credit adjustments for users. After using Xsolla’s online chat feature, the parent was able to speak to an agent to receive most of the transactions back, with the condition that the son’s account is blocked permanently to prevent future issues from happening again. The mother is pleased to receive most of the funds back, only within a few hundred dollars, and will let go with pursuing the difference.

After the mom’s Reddit post went viral, a couple of young people who had similar instances with their parents reached out to the mother and begged the mom to forgive her child. They advised that while what the child may have done was terrible, it was not worth ending a relationship over. The mother decided to take the advice; she now allows her son one hour of monitored playtime with the exception that they must exercise and do various positive activities throughout the day. Hopefully, the family will be able to recover from this both fiscally and emotionally and move past this. It is also scary to think that Twitch wouldn’t give this poor mom the time of day and help her out, it’s terrifying to think it would ignore something like this, but it goes in line with the otherquestionable events surrounding Twitch.
