The latest Nintendo Direct brought many new announcements for Switch fans to get excited about. Being the first Nintendo Direct event of 2022, February’s livestream showed much in forty minutes, fromXenoblade Chronicles 3, to anewSwitch Sportsgame, which reminded Nintendo fans of their nostalgic times playingWii Sports, there’s a lot coming to the Switch in 2022. Some announcements at the Direct weren’t about new games coming to the Switch though, and instead were previously existing titles making their way to the handheld console.
The addition of bothPortalgames to the Nintendo Switch came as quite the surprise for many watching the Nintendo Direct. Considering it has been over a decade since the release ofPortal 2, many had thought the games to be a franchise that wouldn’t be receiving much attention anytime soon. Also, withPortaldeveloperValve having its own handheld Steam Deckarriving soon, it seemed strange to allow a competitor to publish a Valve exclusive game.

Nevertheless, alongside some otherolder titles likeStar Wars: The Force Unleashed,Portal: Companion Collectionwill be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. Though there’s no release date for thePortalSwitch edition yet, that hasn’t stopped fans getting hyped about the upcoming port. One fan has even created an impressive concept of what aPortaledition of the Switch console would look like, complete with a specialized dock and Joycons.
The Switch console design shows off the designer’s affinity for thePortalfranchise. The Joycon sticks are given a blue and orange coloring, both of the colors which are usually associated with thePortalgames. Then there’s the dock, which has an Aperture Laboratories logo, along with some stylized art seen in thePortalfranchise. Something fans noticed as well was the nod to the famous “cake is a lie” meme from the firstPortalgame.
This fan-made Switch not only has fans excited about the upcoming Switch versions ofPortal, but also has many wishing that this was a real Nintendo Switch design. With the attention to detail and uniqueness of the concept art, it would fit in with the current designs of the Nintendo Switch. With its white coloring as well, many were reminded of thenewer OLED Switch, which is looking to shine with all the new titles coming for the Switch in 2022.
