Halo Infiniteis arguably Microsoft’s biggest gaming franchise. The now 20-year-old sci-fi shooter series chronicling Master Chief’s saga of protecting the human race remains an Xbox and PC exclusive to this day, but one fan posits the question of whatHaloInfinitewould look like if it was produced by and for its industry colleague, Nintendo.
After last year’s egregious campaign gameplay trailer, fans got their first updated look atHalo Infiniteduring Xbox’s presentation at this year’s E3. The highly anticipated title revealed its multiplayer portion will be completely free-to-play, marked with an action-packed trailer that revealed a significant boost in visual fidelity andplenty of details about theHalouniverse.

The question of what a Nintendo-madeHalo Infinitewould look like is answered by a Twitter user with the handle TheChunkierBean. The post is an approximately minute-long video showing Master Chief on a brightly-colored, cel-shaded version of what appears to be Zeta Halo, the ringworld whereInfinitetakes place. The clip shows Spartan 117 running around the sunny landscape, encountering unoccupied pairs of Ghosts and Banshees, both of which are the newly revealed red versions. Fans are comparing the visuals in the fan-made video to a mix of titles likeFortnite, Genshin Impact, and of courseThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildand its sequel, which just got a new E3 trailer as well.
The viral Twitter post of the moddedHaloclip comes on the heels of the newmodding tool announcement forHalo: The Master Chief Collection. After adding mod support earlier this year, developer 343 Industries announced a new wave of additional tools will be coming once Season 7 officially launches in a few days. The upcoming season will focus largely on Elites, introducing several new armor sets. However, it doesn’t appear that creating a cel-shaded,Breath of the Wild-esque rendition of the first fewHalotitles is in the cards.
This actually isn’t the first time someone has made a Nintendo version of the game, although the two instances differ in era. Another fan re-made, or essentially de-madeHalo Infinite’s demo opening with Nintendo 64 graphics. The blockier, fuzzy-textured trailer is a humorous callback to the video games of yesteryear, complete with cartoony low-res audio, gibberish text bubbles a laBanjo-Kazooie.The latter half is especially clever, with Master Chief suddenly finding aSuper Mario 64star and emulating what takes place thereafter.
Halo Infiniteis scheduled to release this holiday season on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
