Epic Games has released a new update forFortnitethat brings new balances and changes to certain weapons in the popular battle royale game. Chapter 5 Season 1 of the free-to-play title is underway after the hugely successful OG season, which saw 100 million players log intoFortnitein November.

With the end of theFortniteOG Chapter, Epic Games introduced three new modes to the game: the rhythm-based Fortnite Festival, a competitive racing mode in the form of Rocket Racing, andthe highly anticipated LEGO Fortnite crossover. While the attention may be on other areas of the game, Epic has still found time to balance some weapons in the original mode.

Epic has detailed the latestFortniteupdate that is currently rolling out to players. These include increased damage for the Ranger Pistol, Shield Breaker EMP, and Ballistic Shield pistol as well as an increased mag size for the Thunder Burst SMG. Other weapons that have been rebalanced include the Striker AR which sees a reduction in its power, and the Reaper Sniper sees its spawn rate reduced.

The changes found in the latestFortniteupdate aren’t just limited to weapons. The new patch includes changes to medallions, which can now refill more of a gamer’s shield depending on how many are being held. To compensate for the medallions now stacking to refill more of the shield bar, having one or two equipped will no longer refill 100% of the shield, and there is a longer delay before the shield starts refilling.

It seems after the success of theFortniteOG season, Epic is continuing its momentum. The recently released Fortnite Festival mode arrived on December 9, and it seems that aguitar-shaped controller could be coming toFortniteas soon as January 2024. The controller has been teased by PDP, the team that produced the plastic peripherals forRock Band 4.

With the changes to medallions, and the rebalancing of some weapons and shields, Epic appears to be doubling down on making sure fans have as much fun in the battle royale as possible. Along with these fixes, gamers can also get their hands on newTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles skins inFortnite. The four heroes in half-shells can be picked up in the store for 1600 V-Bucks a piece.
