A newGenshin Impactleak has given fans their first look at a new boss coming with Version 3.4, showing off the gameplay for the Wind-Bitten Sandworm. Since the release of Version 3.0 and the introduction of the Sumeru region, HoYoVerse’s massively popular RPG has seen a plethora of new enemies for players to challenge. Sumeru has brought four new world bosses scattered throughout the region so far, as well asthe Balladeer weekly bossin Version 3.2. Now, a new boss is set to be added to the game during the coming update.

Throughout recent patches,Genshin Impacthas introduced a variety of new bosses with unique mechanics for its newest region. Some bosses like the Jadeplume Terrorshroom and the desert’s Matrix boss feature different reactions toGenshin’s various elements, while others like the Dendro Hypostasis require players to use the Dendro element to defeat it. Others like the Aeonblight Drake have kept the game’s traditional structure, but added new techniques like elemental resistances and aerial mobility. Now,Genshin’s next boss shares some similarities with one that came before.

A recent post to theGenshin Impactleaks subreddit has shared footage of the new boss, titled the Wind-Bitten Sandworm, in an underground desert arena. The boss takes the form of a giant burrowing worm with a tail similar to the head ofGenshin’s pre-existing Regisvine enemies. The video shows the creature emerging and diving into the sands with players taking advantage of its limited above-ground time to deal damage. The Wind-Bitten Sandworm is believed to be coming toGenshin Impactalongside theexpansion of Sumeru’s desert in Version 3.4.

While the Wind-Bitten Sandworm looks to bring underground mechanics to the game’s newest boss, its temporary invulnerability would not be the first instance of a similar gameplay element. The Ruin Serpent, previously introduced in Version 2.6, features a similar style of gameplay with the massive machine burrowing underground. The initial leak notably did not reveal any of the Sandworm’s attacks, with the creature’s offensive pattern still unclear. Thegameplay also shows off more of Yaoyao, also set to come during Version 3.4, during the fight with the Sandworm.

DespiteGenshin Impact’s Version 3.3 only releasing just over a week ago, the beta tests for Version 3.4 have already given fans an idea of what to expect from the next patch. HoYoVerse recently revealed Alhaitham and Yaoyao as the newest characters joiningGenshin Impact, along with a pair of new weapons. The upcoming version is also set to feature the return of the popular Lantern Rite event, bringing back thestandard free Liyue four-star characterfrom both past Lantern Rites. Between new bosses, characters and events,Genshin Impacthas plenty in store for fans in Version 3.4.

Genshin Impactis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
