HoYoVerse’s breakout hit RPG has become quite familiar with leaks from the game’s closed beta test with players often getting a sneak preview at what to expect from new characters. Now, fans have gotten their first looks at the sleepy Akademiya student, Layla.

Genshin Impact’s newest four-star character was revealed to be a Cryo Sword user in the two-minute-long video from prominentGenshin Impactleaker Ubatcha1. Layla’s idle animations show the character constantly dozing off and sometimes even drawing up star charts in her sleep. Her Normal Attacks feature Layla hitting a golden star-shaped particle shooting out stardust for the finisher of her combo. Her attack animations also feature very lively movements to contrast her half-asleep personality, with the character incorporating small hops into her attack pattern.

Layla’s Elemental Skill shows the character creating a Cryo shield and dozing off within it, while generating Night Stars which deal Cryo Damage to enemies after amassing four of them. Her Elemental Burst uses the “Celestial Dreamsphere” often seen in her idle animations to deal Cryo damage to enemies across a wide area, similar tocharacters like Ganyu. Layla’s shielding ability and focus on wide off-screen damage may lead to the character being seen as a strong support or sub-DPS for Cryo teams.

Layla’s introduction as a new Cryo Sword-wielding character will be the fourth member ofGenshin Impact’s roster to share the combination of weapon and element. Each region withinGenshinso far has featured a Cryo Sword character released during its time in the spotlight with popular characters like Ayaka and Qiqi included. She will also stand as only the second Cryo character added toGenshin Impactduring 2022 with her predecessor coming inLiyue five-star character Shenhe. While Layla was confirmed to be featured during Version 3.2, HoYoVerse has yet to reveal whether she will appear on the same banner as Nahida.
