Case in point: it turns out that Scaramouche has a special voice line in which he references his backstory during his recently launched boss fight, though there’s a good chance manyGenshin Impactplayers will never hear this Easter Egg.
TheGenshin Impact3.2 updaterolled out globally this Wednesday, introducing Scaramouche as the game’s latest weekly boss. The fight takes place across two challenging stages, pitting players against the sixth Fatui Harbinger—also known as the Wanderer and Balladeer—as he pilots a giant mech called “Shouki no Kami, the Prodigal.”

One avidGenshin Impactfan who already took on Scaramouche noticed that the Fatui Harbinger has a special voice line if players confront him with Raiden Shogun, or Ei, in their party and then have heir die during the fight with his mech. This will prompt the Wanderer to make a snide remark about his mother’s dwindling power, stating that her “shadow has faded.” Curiously enough, his disdain doesn’t prevent him from addressing her by her proper divine name “Beelzebul” in the same breath, even though the in-game lore already established a more derogatory term of “Beelzebub.”
Scaramouche has been a recurring character inGenshin Impactever since HoYoverse debuted its popular RPG two years ago. He was initially introduced as a typical villain, but became more compelling as his revenge-driven motivations and mommy issues came to light. This sometimes happened through direct exposition, though HoYoverse has also gotten quite good at more subtle storytelling, fueling speculation among the fandom bygiving new meaning to oldGenshin Impactdialogueand the like.
Scaramouche’s complicated backstory is part of the reason why he has beenone ofGenshin Impact’smost anticipated playable characterslong before HoYoverse confirmed his addition to the game’s hero roster, which happened just yesterday. The Chinese developer still hasn’t committed to a specific release date, though it did say that both Scaramouche and Faruzan will become recruitable following the next majorGenshin Impactupdate.
The Wanderer’s creator—Raiden Ei, or Beelzebul—also followed a similar trajectory as she was first introduced as an antagonist before becoming a playable character last year. More of their family drama is bound to be revealed onceGenshin Impact3.3 updatereleases in the first half of December.
