Inspired by the recent release, aGod of War Ragnarokfan channeled their creativity intoFortnite, reimagining the opening scene with the popular battle royale’s unique style. SinceGod of War Ragnarok’s release, many have taken the Ghost of Sparta and his son to other mediums, from replicating them withElden Ring’s character creator to building unofficial LEGO games.
God of War Ragnarokwas first shown to players last September, showcasing moments from the beginning of Kratos' journey to avoid Ragnarok. It gave viewers a significant amount of information to deliberate and discuss, offering a look at an older Atreus, his father struggling to balance the past with a troubling future, and briefly presenting some of the new characters featured. The trailer began with Kratos sat within a cave, dipping an arrow shaft into the fire at his feet, before a figure closes in bearing a deer across their shoulders. Atreus, now a teenager, comes into view before the camera pans to Santa Monica Studio’s logo, a snippet of the first scene that will play upon starting a new game.

AGod of War Ragnarokfan had Kratos on their mind when they moved toFortnite, as demonstrated by an image posted to Reddit by Kalata36. It presents Kratos sat just like the beginning of the game, but notably this iteration of the retired deity is much more cartoonish than the original.Fortnitereleased a Kratos skin in December 2020, alongside one exclusive to the PS5 which saw him don gold-plated armor instead of his traditional garb.
Wearing this skin, the user has Kratos seated on a chair instead of a rock, leaning over a fire in a recreation of the opening scene. Instead of crafting arrows, Kratos is roasting marshmallows, an activity thatfitsFortnite’stone a little better than preparing for war. Comments did not hesitate to imagine Kratos screaming “BOY,” and parodying famous quotes such as “only roast when I tell you to roast.”
Some fans ofGod of War Ragnarokand the franchise’s iconic aesthetic have not only migrated toFortnitein recent weeks, with agym session being controlled by the QTEs once synonymous with Kratosand his Blades of Chaos. Another has crafted Thor’s Mjolnir with a 3D printer, subsequently painting the magnificent model into what could easily be used as a prop in a live-action project. Between these examples and countless others, there is no shortage of creativity among those inspired by Santa Monica Studio’s signature character.
