Before setting off to face him, Kratos can enter Sindri’s House and use his shop to upgrade his equipment. Once everything is in order, Kratos and Atreus must travel through the Mystic Gateway.God of War Ragnarok’s twelfth chapter will begin once they arrive in Helheim.
Helgrind
After stepping through the Mystic Gateway, Garm will charge passed into the wall up ahead. Kratos and Atreus set off down the path he went and discover a ledge to the right on which lies aRed Coffin. After looting it, Kratos must usethe Draupnir Spearto make his way over the wreckage Garm left behind. One ofOdin’s Ravensis circling this area, but the Draupnir Spear will make short work of it.
After scaling the stone structure down to the next area, Kratos and Atreus will be ambushed by a group of Hel-Walkers. There’s aRune Readjust behind the archer, so the player should examine it before moving on. Thanks to the Draupnir spear, Kratos can now destroyice walls with Gold Cracksin them, just like the one blocking his way here. To break the ice, three spears must be lodged in three separate cracks.

The Gleaming Bale
Following Atreus leads Kratos to The Gleaming Bale, a wide-open area crawling with Hel-Walkers. Like the climax of the previous chapter, Atreus needs to close a Realm Tear they’re coming through. To do this, Kratos must fend off the Hel-Walkers attacking him.
There’s a gate in the next area that requires the use of Atreus' new arrows to open it. Connecting the sigils with Hex Bubbles will allow Kratos to spread the frost fromhis Leviathan Axeto the sigil hidden behind the door. He will need to throw the axe while holding the crank in order for this to work.

After defeating the next Hel-Walker hoard, Kratos must drop to the southern walkway and hurl his Draupnir Spear at the northern Wind Spout. After which, he’ll find aLegendary Chestcontaining theTame the Beastrunic attack.
After following Atreus past the next area, twoHel-Vikenswill launch an attack. They can be quite hard to deal with, considering the size of the arena, but they go down easily enough thanks tothe Blades of Chaos.

Shipyard Of The Fallen
Following the path forward leads Kratos to a miniboss, aHel-Traveler. He may seem slow at first, but he has a few quick attacks that are difficult to predict. When he attacks three times in a row, it is vital Kratos prepares for the fourth, unblockable one. He tends to vary this move up by unleashing an unblockable attack after one swipe, so the player will need to stay on high alert at all times. Also, If he lunges his sword into the ground, the best thing Kratos can do is dodge away.

He can also summon forth a skull. To prevent it from dealing damage, Kratos should throw the Leviathan Axe at his hand to destroy the skull and stagger the Hel-Traveler for a brief moment. The Blades of Chaos can be very helpful here thanks to their fiery properties.
To get past the next gate, Atreus must usehis Sigil arrowson the long piece of wood connected to the crank. The wood can then be lowered to connect with the sigil behind the grating. To keep the gate open, Kratos must throw the Leviathan Axe at an exposed Hex Bubble above. At the other side of the gate, to the east, he will find aRed Coffin.

There are two Hel-Raiders further on, but they are easily defeated with the Blades of Chaos. Once they are down, Kratos must follow an eastern path to get a better shot at the Wind Spout in the wall ahead. After swinging across to the next surface, he will find aLegendary Chestcontaining theThrust of a Thousand Soldierslight runic attack.
Pursuing Garm
Following the path forward, Kratos and Atreus will come face to face with Garm as he tries to free himself from his chain. Atreus transforms into a wolf to distract the beast, giving Kratos the chance to freeze its chain in place with the Leviathan Axe. Sadly, the chain doesn’t hold, and Garm gets away.
In the next area, some Legions will attack by hopping across a broken bridge. They’re easy to deal with, especially since Atreus can use his arrows to knock them into the abyss below. After breaking the barrels at the other side of the bridge, Kratos will be able to throw the Draupnie Spear into the Wind Spout on the wall.

Continuing passed the Nightmares, Legions, and the Reverent, Kratos and Atreus will, once again, be forced to confront Garm. Before grappling toward him, however, the player shouldsave the game.
Defeating Garm
Garm is frighteningly quick, so the player won’t get much breathing room during the battle. Though it might feel safer to dodge some of his attacks, it’s better toblock whenever given the chance. For instance, when he begins running toward Kratos, it’s best to get the shield ready as the beast tries to bite him multiple times. Once this attack ends, Garm will remain within reaching distance, giving Kratos the chance to deal out some damage.
RELATED:God Of War Ragnarok: How To Heal
Garm can also throw his chain at Kratos. Even if the player mistimes their dodge, they will have a chance tofreeze the chain in placeto render the beast vulnerable to attack. His projectile attack can be blocked fairly easily, but only if Kratos is standing far enough away. Thankfully, Garm likes to move around, so Kratos will rarely be close to him.
After depleting three of his health bars, Garm will enter his second phase. This time, he can fire more than one projectile, but like before, they’re easy to predict. Blocking his yellow attacks will leave him open for a moment while dodging his red attacks will do the same. The player should ensure to take advantage of these moments to chip away at the beast’s health. He also performs a new attack with his chain where he will attack twice with it before lunging it into the ground.

During his third phase, Garm will retreat to higher ground. He will fire five projectiles at Kratos before moving on. Like before, they’re easy to dodge, but they are slightly faster than the ones before. To get him back to the arena, Kratos must make use of the environment and throw any object he can at him. Once only one of his health bars remains, Kratos must freeze his chain in place and grab it.
Leaving Helheim
After mashingCircleandSquareduring the next scene, the battle with Garm will end. Moving on, Kratos can find aLegendary Chestcontaining theOnslaught Shield, alongside another sealed gate.
To open it, Atreus must cast two Hex Bubbles on the left stone block and one on the right. The positioning can be hard to figure out, but it’s best to aim low on the right block and high on the left.

Garm Returns
While interacting with the door in the next area, Garm will launch his second attack. While fleeing from the beast, Kratos and Atreus will reach a dead end, forcing them to face Garm for a second time. Throwing the Draupnir Spear at his left leg will cause him to run away, but he doesn’t stay gone for long.
After breaking through the wooden structure at the next dead end, Garm returns to drag Kratos to the next battle arena. To beat him this time, Kratos must throw the Draupnir Spear at the beast’sgolden weak spots. The first is located on hisleft legand the second is justbehind the right side of his head. Hitting these targets is the best way to deplete Garm’s health. After three successful strikes, he will be open to attack.

Even if the player fully depletes Garm’s health, he will come to life, forcing the player to fight him again. To stop this from happening, he must be stunned, so Atreus can get up on his back. There, Atreus stabs Garm using his mother’s knife.
Continuing along the path by scaling the obstacles in their way, Kratos and Atreus find Garm, but he is no longer a Hel-hound. Stabbing him with Atreus' knife caused Fenrir’s soul to transfer into his body.

Returning To The Mystic Portal
To get through the next gate, Atreus must cast two Hex Bubbles on the gear beside it, one on the bottom and one on the top. Spinning it requires Kratos to use the nearby crank, and if it’s done correctly, he should be able to use the Leviathan Axe to freeze the sigil. Before moving on, Kratos can examine theLore Markerin the next room.
The path to the right leads to Hel’s Perch, where Hraesvelgr resides, while the way right leads back to the Mystic Gateway. Hraesvelgr asks Kratos to close the six Realm Tears that have opened across the world. Once Kratos accepts the beast’s request, he can set off for the Mystic Gateway. After a short cutscene where he reconciles with Atreus, the chapter will end.
