Quick Links
During the events ofGotham Knights, players will eventually uncover the surprising survival of Clayface, despite his seeming death in events prior to the beginning of the game. After tracking him to the sewers, players will be forced into a dangerous encounter with a trio of large Clayface homunculi who share his consciousness and personality like all of his homunculi.
Clayface is found performing a play inspired by his near-death experience before the events ofGotham Knights, though he’s taking some very noticeable liberties with the truth and seems to be under the impression Batman threw him to his death. He’s also taken a long time to put himself back together and doesn’t realize how long he’s been out of commission.

How to Beat Clayface
On entering the fight Clayface appears as three large homunculithat all have the same attacks and capabilities. The homunculi can sink into the ground and dash through the ground toward the player, returning to the surface while performing a grab attack. Good timing can allow players to dodge the grab and perfect attack, or use a piercing attack as they start the grab attempt to interrupt and deal a decent chunk of damage. If they grab the player they’ll hold them in place for a second or so, leaving them open to attacks from the other homunculi.
Most of the homunculi’s attacks are combos of stretching punches and slams which have deceptive range but can be countered or dodged with careful timing and/or piercing attacks. Other than that, the main threat in this fight is their ability to revive each other.

When one of the Homunculi reaches low health it will fall to one knee and become invincible, and one of the other Homunculi will gain a green glow and bend over, reaching its hand into the ground. This indicates that the Homunculus is trying to revive its ally, and this can only be interrupted by hitting them with a heavy melee attack. This means players will need to keep a close eye on the other Homunculi when one goes down to ensure that they reach the one attempting to revive the downed Homunculi and interrupt it. The Homunculi will keep trying to revive each other constantly during the battle.
Another way to deal with the revival issue is by taking down the health of all the homunculi at roughly the same rate and attempt to take them all down at once or to use elemental effects like stun or freeze to lock down the homunculi and prevent them from interfering until the player is ready to deal with them. Once all three are downed a cutscene will trigger in which Clayface calls on more of his homunculi and the three large ones all revive.
During this phase the large homunculi add a variant of their ground dash to their arsenal, in which they instead burst out of the ground and perform a ground pound. They are also supported by vast numbers of smaller homunculi identical to those encountered around Gotham City earlier in the Clayface Case file investigations.
The same tactics from the previous phase of the fight still apply, down the three larger homunculi and stop them from reviving each other. Engage with the smaller ones as needed to get them out of the way, but otherwise, it’s not worth bothering with them until the three big ones are down. Once the three big ones are down, players should eliminate any remaining small homunculi, at which point the three large ones will melt into the floor, and phase 3 will begin.
Phase 3 is almost exactly the same as phase 2, except the small homunculi will now self-destruct when they are low on health, and players only have a short amount of time to get out of the way once the indicator for the blast appears on the ground. The same tactics from the previous phase will work just as well here, so players should be wary of the self-destruct attacks and proceed as normal.
Once all three large homunculi are downed again, and the remainder of the small ones are mopped up, Clayface will escape through a metal grate deeper into the sewers, and the fight will end.
