AGrand Theft Auto 5player’s single-player story mode was recently invaded by hackers.Grand Theft Auto 5offers two distinct experiences for players to experience, with fans able to play through an extensive single-player story in addition to a massive online multiplayer mode.
Most of the time, theGrand Theft Auto 5story mode and theGTA Onlinecomponent are kept completely separate. In fact, Rockstar has even gone as far as to release astandalone version ofGrand Theft Auto Onlinein the years since its original release. Due to the very nature ofGrand Theft Auto,GTA Onlinetends to have a lot of griefers who actively try to ruin other players' time in the game. Those playing theGrand Theft Auto 5story mode usually don’t have to worry about griefers, but sometimes they manage to force their way to the single-player mode.

This recently happened to Reddit user LUClFER666, who provided video evidence of player-controlled characters invading hisGrand Theft Auto 5story mode. TheGTAgriefers repeatedly killed the Reddit user, making it impossible for LUClFER666 to complete their mission. This happened in thePC version ofGTA 5; it’s unclear if it’s possible in other versions of the game.
Some may be quick to dismiss the video as fake, but this wouldn’t be the first time that thesingle-playerGTA 5story modehas been invaded by hackers. Reports of this first cropped up at least five years ago. It’s not a widespread problem by any means, so the vast majority ofGrand Theft Auto 5players on PC generally don’t have to worry about getting targeted by griefers when playing single-player, but it’s still rather strange that it’s possible to begin with.
It will be interesting to see how Rockstar Games tackles issues of griefing in the upcomingGrand Theft Auto 6. As it stands, there is very little known aboutGrand Theft Auto 6in an official capacity. WhileGrand Theft Auto 6leakshave seemingly confirmed that there will be a male and female protagonist and that the game takes place in Vice City, all that Rockstar has said officially is that the game is in development.Grand Theft Auto 6will presumably feature its own online multiplayer mode to go with its single-player story, but it remains to be seen just how different it will be from the currently-availableGTA Onlineand how it may potentially prevent griefing from happening.
Grand Theft Auto 5is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
