Summary

While the primary focus ofHelldivers 2is on its fast-paced and engaging gameplay, Arrowhead has also given players a ton of customization options to unlock. Through Warbonds, players are able to claim a wide assortment of armor sets, helmets, emotes, capes, and even banners. All of that helps give players the freedom to represent themselves how they want during theirHelldivers 2journey. However, the studio has also limited that potential a bit by attaching stats to each armor set.

BecauseeveryHelldivers 2armorhas stats and abilities, players will prioritize their outfit based on what sounds the most useful. This means that while some players may still prioritize looks, many are forced to stick with what is actually good. This design isn’t inherently wrong, but it does strip away some player freedom in the process. The addition of a simple transmog feature could change all of that.

Helldivers 2 Has Space for Even More Customization Options Through Armor Transmogs

Helldivers 2’s Armor Limits the Player’s Potential

Helldivers 2’s free Warbondoffers countless cosmetics waiting to be collected. Additionally, the premium Warbond has even more waiting to be grabbed, with a whole new set releasing March 14. And that is not all, as the Superstore also features a rotating catalog of collectible armors for players to purchase. All of those options should mean that players have virtually limitless freedom to be who they want to be during their adventures, but that is not actually the case.

Instead of letting players choose based on looks,Helldivers 2attaches special featuresto a majority of these sets. The first thing players may notice is that these armor sets are split up into three tiers: light, medium, and heavy. These tiers tend to dictate the player’s armor rating, stamina regen, and movement speed while wearing them. Along with that, many of the armors also have special perks attached to them, with some feeling truly game changing. Some armor may give players more grenades, others may give players more stims, and some may even reduce damage or recoil.

This means that players need to prioritize the best perks and skills over their appearance, which prevents players from looking how they want. On top of that, it may also push some players away from the Superstore, because there is little reason to buy a cool-looking armor set if it does not have better perks. Arrowhead could easily change that by adding in the popular transmog feature.

Adding a Simple Transmog Feature to Helldivers 2 Would Be a No-Brainer

Transmog has been an extremely successful mechanic in many games, withtitles likeWorld of Warcraftputting a heavy emphasis on it. Through that feature, players are able to change the appearance of any armor set to a completely different previously collected one. Usually, it keeps all the stats of the equipped one, but with a whole new look and feel. That gives players the ability to still prioritize their stats, but with more control over what the armor actually looks like.

Helldivers 2could really benefit from including a feature just like that. Players could still equip armor that gives them the perks they want, but then, for some requisition points or samples, they could change its entire appearance. This would not only give them more freedom to look how they want, but would also be a great incentive to keep checking the Superstore. If players can change the appearance of any armor, then they will likely want to keep an eye on all the latest gear.

IfHelldivers 2cannot add a transmog feature, then Arrowhead should at least consider introducing some sort of color wheel. Giving each armor set a collection of different colors for players to choose from could also go a long way in rectifying this issue. While it may not give players full control over what they look like, they would at least have a bit more say in their appearance on the battlefield outside of their flowing cape.
