High on Lifeis getting a fourth update patch, one that will finally add new graphics modes alongside some smaller quality-of-life improvements. Despite its imaginative premise and gameplay,High on Lifehas divided players due to its seemingly nonstop dialogue and a host of technical issues. Developer Squanch Games has already addressed some of these problems through downloadable update patches, with the third and most recent one being released in January. Recently,High on Lifelaunched its fourth and most recent update patch, which continues to address the many gameplay glitches and problems with achievements that players have had the misfortune of coming across. Loading issues that slowed the game down have also been fixed, and two new graphical settings have been added: Performance and Quality. As is the case withmost games that implement these settings, Performance trades visual fidelity for a smoother 60 fps framerate, while Quality boostsHigh on Life’s colorful graphics at the cost of only running at 30 fps.
These new bug fixes and graphical settings are coming at a time of uncertainty forHigh on Life. Just a few months ago, Squanch Games CEO Justin Roiland was charged with felony domestic violence in California, leading to his resignation from Squanch Games in late January. While the studio will continue in his absence, Roliand’s controversies and legal troubles could have anegative impact on Squanch Gamesgoing forward - even asHigh on Lifecontinues to foster a fanbase thanks to Xbox Game Pass.
This fanbase will certainly appreciate the new fixes and features brought on byHigh on Life’s newest patch update, which will ensure that the zany sci-fi shooter looks and runs better than ever before thanks to its new Performance and Quality settings. Thefuture ofHigh on Lifeand Squanch Gamesmay seem uncertain for now, but at least the studio is continuing to address the many issues players have had with its surprise breakout hit.
