Final Fantasy 14allows players to experience what every class and job has to offer without requiring the creation of multiple characters, as it is possible to simply change class. This is one of the features that makes theMMO welcoming to new players, as there is no need to start over when you realize you don’t like the class you’re playing as, or that something else might be more interesting.

As the game continues to add to its already varied options by includingnew jobs in new expansions, which will be the case withDawntrail, there is often some new reason to attempt to change class. The idea might seem confusing at first when compared to MMOs and RPGs where the character is locked in their starting class, but provided the player meets the criteria, it’s very simple to make the most of the job system. Here ishow to change class inFinal Fantasy 14.

How to Change Class in Final Fantasy 14

The only requirement to be able to change class is tocomplete the level 10 quest of any class. When the player speaks to the corresponding NPC to complete their class quest, the character will mention in dialogue that the adventurer is free to join other guilds. To make it clearer, though, the game will also indicate the Armory has been unlocked.

While the game states that quests to unlock other classes can be started by talking to the receptionist in the respective guild, it is important to note this is not true for every job. Jobs added after “A Realm Reborn” are not unlocked through that process, as the NPCs that start the quests to unlock those jobs are varied.

From that point forward, players can unlock other classes whenever they meet the requirements specific to each one. Thestarter classes will all be availableright away, as long as the adventurer has the means to get to the respective guilds in Gridania, Ul’dah or Limsa Lominsa. It should be pointed out, however, that the game doesn’t recommend leveling multiple classes early on. Instead, it’s suggested players shouldfocus on a single classfirst.

After unlocking a second class, changing into it or returning to the first depends only on equipping the right weapon (or tool, when it comes to theCrafting and Gathering classes). For example. after unlocking the Thaumaturge class for a character who was originally an Archer, all it takes to go from the latter to the former is equipping the main weapon received after unlocking the class.

It’s important to say that, while changing weapons like that will let the player change class, there are more efficient ways to do so after switching for the first time. When adifferent weapon is equipped, the rest of the gear won’t be automatically updated - instead, there will be no armor equipped, and the player will have to choose manually or click on the Recommended Gear button. It’s because of that issue that unlocking the possibility to change jobs also unlocks the Armory, which can be used to make switching classes much simpler.

How to change class using the Armory

The Armory is where weapons and gear are automatically stored, but it is also the system that allows the creation of Gear Sets. As explained before, changing the main weapon will change the character’s class, but it won’t update the rest of the equipment. After adding the necessary gear, however, thatequipment configuration can be saved by clicking the Gear Set buttonin the character menu, and then clicking the plus (+) sign in the window that will pop up, as highlighted in the image above.

Once a Gear Set is created, it will be added to the list accessed through the Gear Set menu. The subcommand menu for each set provides information on the items included and allows players to change the set’s name. More importantly, equipping a set will switch class automatically with full gear, making the whole process a lot easier. For those who would like to save a few more clicks, it’s possible to assign a set to the hotbar to change class even faster.

Afterupgrading or changing gear for a job, it’s not necessary to make a different set. All it takes to update an existing one is clicking the Update Gear Set button in the character menu (the cycling arrows to the right of the Gear Set’s name). This makesGear Sets the most convenient way to change class inFinal Fantasy 14since, after they are created, the sets are easy to update and equip, allowing players to switch from one job to another within seconds.
