TheAnimal Crossingseries has a wide variety of features, but one of the longest-running mechanics to make a return inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis native fruit trees. For someAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayers it doesn’t matter, but manyAnimal Crossingfans have gone out of their way to seek their village’s ideal fruit, whether it be a pear, apple, cherry, or otherwise.

Like withthe return of camera tilt, the ability to collect and grow a collection of different fruits has come back toAnimal Crossing. But while the player can find and be given new fruits, a village’s native fruit is always locked. A island’s native fruit is chosen the moment the island is created and there are no in-game ways to change it. The player will be stuck with their native fruit until they can diversify, so it’s not surprising that many people want to change theirs. Thankfully, there is a way to change an island’s native fruit inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, but it isn’t quite as easy as simply choosing an option and pressing A.

Changing The Island’s Native Fruit

As previously mentioned, there’s no actual in-game method to change an island’s native fruit. The only in-game alternative is to plant new fruit which can be found through different methods, such as on deserted islands or through other players' islands inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' multiplayer. But, unfortunately, that is unrealistic for many players this early on in the gameunless they choose to time travel. However, there is still a way for players to change their island’s fruit from the very start.

Many players have beenresettingAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfrom the beginningin order to get their ideal island. In the same vein, if a player wants to change their native fruit inAnimal Crossingthey’ll have to start over. Since the native fruit is tied to the island, the player can’t get a new native fruit without a new island. With a village’s native fruit being entirely random, there’s no telling how many times the player will need to reset their game before they get their ideal fruit.

As a warning, this isn’t a soft reset—choosing this option will not only delete the island, but also all of the players and their save data. to resetAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, players will have to exit the game and head to the home menu. From there, they must go into settings and select Data Management. Once in Data Management, the player can then select Delete Save Data, chooseAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, and then the game’s data should be completely erased.

Doing this at the beginning of the game makes the most sense, given what could be lost if a player were to do it later on. If anything, it makes the most sense to deleteAnimal Crossing’s file at the very beginning of the game, over something more trivial like a village’s native fruit. At this point in the game, players won’t have spent too much time collecting bells, working up Nook Miles, or generally progressing in the game. And, once players have finally gotten their ideal fruit, they can feel free to explore everythingAnimal Crossing: New Horizonshas to offer.
