Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition, which will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, has had a lot of press surrounding it’s multiplayer functionality. The core ofCrystal Chroniclesin its original GameCube iteration from 2003 was on being a multiplayerFinal Fantasyfor everyone to enjoy. WhileFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Editionhas had numerous confirmations regarding online and cross-play features, couch co-op was never confirmed.

Discussions boards and fans online displayedserious concern regarding the lack of confirmation of local co-op. The co-op functionality was an incredibly important and specific feature of the game. It famously utilized the GameCube’s connection to the Game Boy Advance via Link Cable which required each player to have the Nintendo handheld. While it could have been seen as a cumbersome means for couch play back in the early 2000s, most players look back fondly onCrystal Chronicle’sco-op. It is still highly regarded as one of the best spin-offs of theFinal Fantasyfranchise and the Remaster set to release on August 27 will be a welcomed return.

This new wave of information comes nearly six months afterthe last update which announced its delay to Summer. It was a considerable delay that was announced just a month before the initial planned launch.

The pseudo-confirmation of local co-op is an incredibly welcomed addition. While it doesn’t hold the same style as the original with its Link Cable integration, it is still a game best played with friends together. Although this officially means Square Enix did not take the chance to recreate the original system with the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. It would have been the perfect integration after Sonyacknowledged their handheld system in the recent Last of Us 2 gameplay demonstration. Unfortunately, controllers will have to suffice.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Editionreleases August 27 on Mobile devices, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
