The officialKaginadowebsite announced on Wednesday that the anime will be getting a second season in April 2022. The 12th and final episode of the first season was released the same day.

Kaginadois a crossover series featuring characters from visual novel developer Key’s games. It is thefirst crossover seriesof the popular developer’s works, featuring characters from their most well-known and beloved titles.

Kaginadofirst aired on October 12, partway through the Fall 2021 season. The series features a myriad of characters from popular Key titles likeKanon,Air,Clannad,Little Busters!, andRewrite. The art is done in a chibi style, similar to anotherpopular crossover series,Isekai Quartet.

Liden Films Kyoto Studio produces the series, with Kazuya Sakamoto serving as the director, and Tohya Okano and Takashi Aoshima serving as scriptwriters. Sakamoto is best known for having directed episodes ofNichijou, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,andLove, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!. Aoshima has worked on the scripts for many popular titles, most notablyNo Game, No Life,Gabriel DropOut, andHimouto! Umaru-chan.

Key was founded by Itaru Hinoue, Naoki Hisaya, Jun Maeda, and Shinji Orito in 1998. Thevisual novel developerput out its first title,Kanon,in 1999 which was then followed byAirin 2000. In 2004, Key released Clannad, which remains one of their most recognizable and popular works. All three games received anime adaptations in subsequent years.

Another popular Key visual novel, Little Busters!, was released in 2007. Two anime produced by J.C.Staff were produced between 2012 and 2013, and an 8-episode titledLittle Busters! EXwas released the year after. In 2015, Key released a visual novel adaptation of the popular P.A. Works anime,Angel Beats!

The developer released two new visual novels,LoopersandLunaria: Virtualized Moonchild, this past year.Kaginadostreams worldwide on Crunchyroll, Funimation, HIDIVE, Wakanim, Aniplus-Asia, bilibili, and Muse Asia.
