There’s a new update that’s started rolling out for the remake ofResident Evil 4which comes with a few fixes, but there’s one specific change that may not go down too well with speedrunners. Quickly becomingone of the fastest-selling entries in theResident Evilseries, the recent reimagining of the iconic 2005 survival horror release has been a hit with fans and critics alike, with Capcom successfully blending a sense ofREnostalgia with something that makes it feel brand new.

Of course, one thing that a lot of players have been noticing lately is thenumber of ways that fans can exploitResident Evil 4. This might include a glitch that gives Leon Kennedy a ridiculous amount of rockets, or a stun lock on one of the game’s bosses that makes it much easier to take them down. In any case, these exploits have enabled people to make things a little easier for themselves. However, it looks as though the developer has started plugging some of the more obvious ones.

In the latest patch notes for theResident Evil 4remake, a new update has resolved a number of issues with the game. According to a recent post on the official website, the patch now makes it so that items that were unobtainable can now be collected, and there’s been some miscellaneous fixes on all platforms. However, the update also makes it so that players can’t warp through walls, particularly when using the scope. This could be detrimental to fans who have been learning speedrunning routes and have been utilizing this glitch to shave a lot of time off their playthroughs.

It didn’t take long forResident Evil 4fans to start speedrunning the game. Despite it boasting a length of about 15-16 hours, some dedicated players have been breezing through the remake in less than two. One such glitch does involve using the scope to skip numerous areas. However, with the latest update now fixing this particular bug, players who are looking to break world records may have to go back to the drawing board.

For those who aren’t in the know, speedrunning is a very popular challenge among many gamers. In a nutshell, the end goal is to get the end of a game in any way possible. While outright cheating is prohibited, many runs have categories that do allow people to exploit glitches as well as the game’s programming overall. While a personal challenge for many, events such asAwesome Games Done Quick can raise millions for charity. It will be interesting to see whether Capcom patches up any more speedrunning bugs, not to mention how runners will counter for this.
