Unlike some other popular PS4 titles such asGhost Of TsushimaandDays Gone,Death Strandinghasn’t received a full-blown next-gen patch yet. Fans have beenanticipating a PS5 update to Hideo Kojima’s latestthat could boost the game’s FPS and add DualSense support for quite some time now. Unfortunately, no such announcement has surfaced yet, and fans are getting anxious.

Early rumors suggested that an extended edition forDeath Strandingis in the works. However, Kojima Productions and Sony have yet to hint at such a possibility. Interestingly, notable leaker Navtra has once again suggested that an announcement for this rumored extended edition is coming soon.

Leaker Navtra, who has accurately predicted information regarding various Square Enix titles in the past such asMarvel’s Avengers' Spider-ManDLC, was the first to suggest that aDeath Strandingextended edition is in works. As a month passed by without any announcement of any kind, a fan decided to ask Navtra, over at Resetera, about the status of this extended edition. On being asked, Navtra said thatDeath Stranding extended edition “has been ready and done for a while now.” and that they expected anannouncement at Sony’s recent State of Play event.

Furthermore, Navtra retaliated that an official reveal could take as long as a month. While there’s no concrete information on what this extended edition would bring toDeath Stranding, Navtra had said earlier that it would add more paid story content.Death Strandingcould very well take the same approach asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, which recently laid its plan for a PS5 version.Final Fantasy 7Remake on PS5 costs $70, which comes bundled with the base game, quality of life next-gen features, and a brand new episode featuring Yuffie.

Kojima Productions is currently hard at work on its next title. Recent rumors suggested thatKojima was working on an episodic horror game for Google Stadia, which unfortunately never saw the day of light. AlthoughDeath Stranding 2is still far from being real, Kojima has shared the possibility of more Strand games in the future.

If this rumored extended edition ends up adding a new story DLC to the game, it could indicate that the company is not done with this universe yet. Earlier last year, Kojima accidentally teased what some thought wasnewDeath Strandingcontent. Given how earlyDeath Strandinggot announced, it’s possible that the studio’s next-game announcement isn’t that far.

Death Strandingis now available on the PC and PS4.
