The parry windows in this game are extremely tight, and it can take a while before players get the timing on their animations right. Mastering the parry mechanic will take some time, but the reward for doing so will be more than worth it.
How to Parry in Lords of the Fallen
To parry inLords of the Fallen, players must press the LB/L1 button on their controlleror the Shift key if they’re using a mouse and keyboard. Parrying attacks here is very similar to that inLies of P,wherein players need to block just as an attack is about to hit to properly deflect it.
This system veers away fromthe traditionalDark Soulsparry mechanic, where players need to equip specific weapons and hit their special weapon move button. Parrying inLords of the Fallenis much smoother and can be done with any weapon. Players who have just come fromLies of Pmay also find parrying in this game to be much easier, considering how most enemy attack animations don’t simply snap forward after a telegraphed wind-up.
Thanks to the slower attack animations, players will be able to follow incoming strikes with their eyes more easily. This is the key to landing successful parries. When fighting enemies, always keep an eye glued to where their weapon is instead of their arms or body. Once players get a feel for the timing of attack animations, then this technique won’t be necessary.
Enemies take Posture damageevery time they are hit with any attack or when they are successfully parried. If a posture-broken enemy is parried, kicked, or hit with a charged heavy attack, they will become open to a Grievous Strike.
Keep in mind that there’s enough time for players to swap their weapon when an enemy is staggered. With that said, it may be worth equipping a secondary weapon that deals more damage with visceral attacks that will only be used when an enemy’s defenses are exposed.
