Summary
InFairy Tail’s Kingdom of Fiore, where magic is rampant, the eponymous guild was once disbanded, causing the protagonist Natsu Dragneel to work hard to reconstruct it. Among his trusted confidants isLucy Heartfilia, a charming yet kind spell caster who specializes in Celestial Spirit Magic, a variant of Spatial Magic that allows her to specifically summon Celestial Spirits through special Keys.
With aFairy Tailtoolkit that revolves around the Zodiac Signs, Lucy has access to multiple summons, each of which possesses different abilities, on top of various summoning-related abilities that Celestial Spirit Magic provides. However, among Lucy’s summons, just which ones are the most powerful?

Updated July 07, 2025, by Ahmed Rehan Nasir:Lucy Heartfilia has long-since cemented herself as an integral character within Fairy Tail’s narrative, and much of her significance stems from her rare Celestial Spirit Magic. With ten of the Golden Zodiac keys in her possession, Lucy is arguably the strongest Celestial Spirit Magic user in the entire series. While Lucy is a strong fighter in her own right, her actual power lies in the individual strength of each of her summons. This discussion has been updated to reflect the strength of the current summonings in her possession.
Magic
Twin Scissors
Despite boasting the status of a Golden Zodiac Spirit, Cancer is arguably one of the weakest summons among Lucy’s keys. With twin scissors as his own weapons, Cancer is adept at cutting through even steel. However, he is rarely summoned to the battlefield, as he primarily serves as Lucy’s personal hairdresser.
Without magical abilities or brute strength, Cancer isn’t much of a fighter, making him more suitable as a personal stylist. Nevertheless, Cancer is still a Celestial Spirit capable of inflicting damage, with his powers coming in handy in Lucy’s fightagainst Flare Corona.

Master Archer
As a master Marksman, Sagittarius dons a bow and arrow as his sole weapon, striking down enemies from long distances. While he lacks magic abilities, he makes up for it through his near-perfect accuracy. Sagittarius’ key was gifted to Lucy as a reward for completing the mission on Galuna Island, making this summon one of Lucy’s earliest acquired spirits.
Sagittarius’ appearance, however, is rather amusing, as he presents himself as a human wearing a horse suit. Most of his screen time is relegated to comedic relief, with his catchphrase “Moshi Moshi” being another element that takes away any semblance of depth from his character.

Wool Magic
As with stapleFairy Tailfashion, the females of the cast tend to have a rather appealing choice of esthetics, withAriesnotable for her pink hair and rather conservative appearance. Taking on characteristics of her basis, the constellation Aries, the Celestial Spirit also has a penchant for wearing wool and even using Wool Magic. With Wool Magic, Aries can summon pink woolthat can distract opponents in a wide variety of ways, making her the perfect support Celestial Spirit.
At its core, Aries can create enough pink wool to entangle opponents and distract them from the rest of her comrades. In terms of more specific techniques, Aries can lull opponents (Wool Bomb), force them to calm down (Wool Shot), defend herself from attacks (Wool Wall, Wool Cushion), blind them (100% Fluffy-Fluffy Wool), and completely immobilize opponents (Fluffy-Fluffy Wool Bomb).

Gate Of The Southern Cross
Anime Debut
Episode 31 “The Star That Will Never Return to the Sky”
Scanning, Telepathy
Among the Silver Key Celestial Spirits,Cruxhas perhaps one of the strangest appearances of them all. Taking the form of a large cross based on the Southern Cross constellation, Crux is one of the latter Spirits that Lucy can summon from the Celestial Spirit World. Of these Spirits, Crux is perhaps the one that can open Lucy the most to various combat opportunities.
At its core, Crux specializes in Celestial Spirit Magic, much like Lucy. Instead of using it offensively, however, Crux can use hisnature as a spirit to “scan” individualswho have had contact with both Celestial Spirit Magic and Celestial Spirits in general. Through sleeping, Crux can gather information about these individuals and report them when necessary. However, Crux does this to a limited degree, as he still values the privacy of denizens of the Spirit World.

Episode 2 “The Fire Dragon, The Monkey, And The Ox”
Master Axemanship
Although having the rather peculiar appearance of being a humanoid with a cow’s head,Taurusis no slouch in combat. This axe-toting Celestial Spirit boasts brute strength, along with mastery of his great axe so that he can not only swing it fast enough to trade blows but also catch projectiles with it.
As the embodiment of the Taurus constellation, he can integrate his magical prowess with his axe, creating devastating earthquakes and even sandstorms with the swings of his weapon. He also possesses immense strength, boasting the greatest strength among the Zodiac Spirits, and is always called when Lucy encounters an insurmountable physical obstacle.

Defense Magic
Lucy’s summoning abilities aren’t just limited to the Golden Zodiac Keys, asHorologiumis proof that even those belonging to the Silver Key Celestial Spirits can be rather reliable when the situation arises. And this is on top of Horologium’s rather odd appearance, which is primarily that of an anthropomorphized grandfather clock.
Despite this appearance, however, Horologium is one of the most defensibly-sensible Celestial Spirits at Lucy’s disposal. When deployed, Horologium can house individuals in his clock body within a particular time limit. However, this does mean almost absolute safety, as beneath Horologium’s wooden body is formidable defensible magic so potent that it could repel evenpowers based on natural sources such as lavaand keep its occupants safe.

Not only that, Horologium has the uncanny ability to automatically summon himself to protect his user in cases of extreme danger, making him a nifty last-minute defensive option.
Sand Magic
With a scorpion tail that doubles as a lethal weapon, Scorpio embodies his celestial inspiration in all the right ways. However, despite his menacing outward appearance, Scorpio is a kind spirit, and his most prominent trait is his loyalty to Lucy and her cause.
Scorpio’s primary magic is Sand, a power that stays true to his celestial influence. With his stinger as his main weapon, Scorpio can make quick work of hoards of opponents through his sandstorms. While Scorpio is primarily an offensive spirit, he can double as Lucy’s strongest defense through his impenetrable sand wall.

Earth Magic, Chain Magic
While at first stubborn to a fault,Virgohas developed an immense loyalty towards Lucy throughout the rest of the series. Beneath her maid’s outfit is a do-or-die attitude, more than willing to go headfirst into battle, courtesy of her various magical abilities. As a Celestial Spirit, Virgo embodies the Virgo constellation, which is also highlighted in her sheer stability and affinity with the earth.
Virgo possesses Earth Magic, particularly with drilling, as she can use holes in the ground to travel and even trap enemies. Not only that, she can use Chain Magic to manipulate her chains and transform them into weapons, making her a potent long-ranged combatant aside from her proficiency in hand-to-hand. On top of these is her Transformation Magic, allowing her to transform into a burly woman with considerable strength compared to her original self.

Copy Magic
Despite the unimposing appearance of theGeminitwins, they probably have some of the best power sets throughout the entireFairy Tailseries, at least from the point of view of Celestial Spirits. At its core, they possess theCopyability, allowing them to take on the appearance of a person they have previously touched. This immediately makes them perfect for reconnaissance and espionage, although with set limits as they only know the things the original knows and can only transform for as long as five (5) minutes.
What’s perhaps scary is how Gemini can actually copy the Magic of the person they’ve copied, allowing them to tap into the same toolkit as the original, regardless ofwhether it is Ice Magicor other forms of magic. The main caveat here is that they can only use the Magic of the same level as their user; then again, considering the power of Lucy as a spellcaster, Gemini may very well be able to stop short of the most powerful individuals in the world as Copy targets.

Human Subordination Magic (Formerly)
The sunglasses-wearing goat-man calledCapricornis no mere anthropomorphized being, as this Celestial Spirit is one of the most potent hand-to-hand combatants among the 12 Golden Keys ofthe Fairy Tail guild member. Unfortunately for Lucy and the Fairy Tail guild, Capricorn’s Key was formerly possessed by Zoldeo of the Seven Kin of Purgatory, transforming Capricorn into Caprico, one of the most brutal fighters of the team.
While Lucy’s current possession of Capricorn’s Key meant the Celestial Spirit returned to normal, his former possessed self had magical powers unfathomable for a Celestial Spirit. Through Zoldeo’s access to the Lost Magic called Human Subordination Magic, Capricorn was forced to weaken the wills of others to enslave them. Capricorn is also knowledgeable about Celestial Magic and knows how to temporarily use the light-based magic Regulus, once considered exclusive to Loke.
