Everyone’s favorite green plumber finally makes his grand return to nabbing ghosts on home console inLuigi’s Mansion 3for the Nintendo Switch. Though the series' art-style and gameplay formula changed somewhat heavily starting with the 3DS title,Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon,Luigi’s third foray into busting ghostsmakes a return to the first title’s more open-ended gameplay structure.

While many elements of Luigi’s past title’s return inLuigi’s Mansion 3,such as the lovable Polterpupand the ghost-loving mad scientist, Professor E. Gadd, there are also a variety of new and improved additions to the series. Along with the new setting of the Last Resort hotel, Luigi’s repertoire of moves has been expanded even further. Curiously, however, while there is no dedicated sprint button there is a simple enough way to increase Luigi’s movement speed while exploring the Last Resort.

How Sprinting Works

Moving around inLuigi’s Mansion 3is simple enough: players use the left thumbstick to control what direction Luigi moves. However, if a certain direction is held long enough, Luigi will increase his movement speed until that direction is changed abruptly or he stops moving altogether.

Easy enough, right? Luigi only takes around two or three seconds to start sprinting after a certain direction is held down. While it can be a bit frustrating thatLuigi’s Mansion 3doesn’t have a dedicated sprint button mapped to allow players to traverse the hotel faster, there is still a way to make those long stretches of hallway just slightly more bearable.

Traversing the Hotel

Unfortunately, that automatic sprint is probably going to be the fastest way of traversing the hotel, as Luigi’s Mansion 3 doesn’t have a fast-travel system built in. The only real fast travel system is found by pressing the + button on the Switch controller. Next, simply locate the lab option, which will allow players to go straight to E. Gadd’s lab on basement floor one. Players can’t use this to just go wherever they want, however.

This means that the only way to traverse the different floors in the Last Resort hotel over thecourse ofLuigi Mansion 3’s average play-timeis through the elevator, and floors can only be unlocked by finding the corresponding button. Thankfully, a dedicated fast travel button isn’t overly necessary as players can get around the different floors fast enough by just locating the nearest elevator.

That’s everything players need to know about sprinting and traversing the hotel inLuigi’s Mansion 3. With that helpful tip, players will be able to catch up to those pesky ghosts in both the single player story mode andthe ScareScraper multiplayer mode.
