If all oftheWandavisiontrailers have shown audiencesanything, it’s that the MCU shows that will be streaming on Disney+ won’t be like anything they’ve already seen in the movies. The latest announcement from Kevin Feige regarding the upcomingShe-Hulkseries continues to confirm this assumption. The Marvel head recently said in an interview that the show would be a half-hour legal comedy.
Speaking withEmmy Magazine(viacomicbook.com), Feige noted that this is a format that the company has yet to explore. He added that all of the other Marvel shows that have been in development, which would includeFalcon and the Winter Soldier,have fallen into hour-long territory. She-Hulk, which will starOrphan Black’sTatiana Maslany in the titular role, will be a major departure from the types of superhero content that have been coming from Marvel over the last 12 years.

Maslany will be joined by some familiar faces.Both Tim Roth and Mark Ruffalo will appear in the seriesas Emil Blonsky (aka Abomination) and the Hulk, respectively. There’s no indication how much these two will appear in the series, but the return of Blonsky, who turned into a monster after combining gamma radiation with a knockoff super-soldier formula, will definitely need to be addressed, considering he appeared to be dead at the end ofThe Incredible Hulk.
While the MCU has been no stranger to blending comedic elements into its stories (Thor: Ragnarokis a good example), it has yet to make something that would be referred to only as a comedy. However,She-Hulkcould prove that the MCU is able to expand beyond traditional superhero stories and get more creative. Instead of superpowered individuals fighting in the city streets or on some strange planet, they’d be facing off in the courtroom, hurling objections at one another and performing powerful cross-examinations.
There is certainly potential in seeing yet another corner of the MCU that hasn’t been explored. TheNetflix Marvel series, which includedDaredevilandLuke Cage, were meant to take a look at the street-level crimefighting that took place during the larger-scale conflicts of the movies. However, there was never any meaningful crossover between these projects to suggest that they were happening in the same world where a huge chunk of New York got destroyed by a large-scale alien invasion.
She-Hulkmay be able to show what the legal side of a world filled with superpowered individuals looks like, and more importantly, how it works.
