Being one of the most enduring superheroes in popular culture ensures the world is never too far away from a new slice ofSpider-Manmedia. Since 2016, this guarantee has contributed to the rise of two beloved versions of the hero, Tom Holland’s big-screen MCU portrayal and Insomniac Games’Marvel’s Spider-Man. WithSpider-Man: No Way Homescheduled to hit cinemas in December, a perfect opportunity appears to be taking shape for the two incarnations to meet each other face to face.
All indicators and leaks point to Disney and Sony having big plans for their multiverse winter blockbuster, which would leave the door conveniently open for a host of potential cross-media collaborations. Having consistently shipped quality games for both the PS4 and PS5 since joining the PlayStation Studios family, there’s every chance that Insomniac Games might be ready to lift the lid on its inevitableMarvel’sSpider-Man 2at some point in the next year or so. With those factors to consider, the possibility for a joining of Spider-Men seems too perfect for all parties involved to simply ignore.

Spider-Man’s New Threads
Despite locking down serial-leaker Tom Holland, Disney and Sony’s tight-lipped approach toNo Way Homespoilers hasn’t prevented a host of newSpider-Man costumes from crawling onto the internetvia leaked toy pictures. These latest collectibles suggest that the cinematic version of Peter Parker will find himself decked out in a Doctor Strange-inspired ‘Integrated’ suit, as well as a stealthy black and gold uniform. Naturally, fans of the PlayStation exclusive games are eager for the outfits to be added to the video game incarnation’s already impressive list of useable outfits.
ConsideringInsomniac Games' interpretations of Peter Parkerfound himself in possession of all five of Tom Holland’s movie suits, it seems quite possible that the Spider-suit is one area in which the media franchises will cross over once again. With the exception of theAmazing Spider-Man 2andSpider-Man 3’s Venom Symbiote costumes, Yuri Lowenthal’s Spidey eventually found himself in possession of every modern live-action outfit. Evidence suggests thatSpider-Man 2is the more likely destination for the two newest suits.

Earth 1048’s Place in the Multiverse
If the forces involved with both Spider-Man properties really want to go all out though, there’s scope for the two universes to cross over beyond simple cosmetic skins. Over the last few years, Marvel has been preparing the world for the idea of a multiverse where characters from different mediums can interact, and Spider-Man has been at the forefront of that charge thanks toSony’s ownInto the Spider-Verse. While Insomniac’s Earth-1048 has been relatively grounded in-game so far, wider supporting material has set the stage for a more meaningful crossover.
Insomniac Games' Peter Parker has already got a decent amount of dimension-hopping experience under his belt, thanks in part to a series of comic books released in 2018. TitledSpider-Geddon, this Christos Gage series acted as a direct sequel to the 2014Spider-Verseseries, and cruciallythe events ofMarvel’s Spider-Manas well. Within the series' 6 issues, the Spider-Man of Earth-1048 interacted with a host of other arachnid heroes, including the infamous Superior Spider-Man. The series also featured the introduction of the game universe’s villainous Tarantula, as well as a heart-to-heart with an alternate version of Otto.
Depending on the specifics ofNo Way Home’s multiverse shenanigans, there’s a chance that characters from the movie could easily crop up in the virtual version of New York without much need for the audience to be caught up as well. It does seem more likely that Yuri Lowenthal’s interpretation of Spider-Man could appear within the movie instead, however, based on the teases that have already pointed towardsSpider-Man 2’s narrative direction. But outside of the three live-action versions of the character already rumored to be inNo Way Home, Insomniac Games' depiction of the legendary hero is one of the most recognizable across any medium, and he deserves to meet his contemporaries.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is rumored to be in development.
