TheMetal Gear Solidmovie has been in the works for years now, but besides Jordan Vogt-Roberts serving as the director, there hasn’t been much news about what fans can expect from the film. Now that’s changed, as theMetal Gear Solidmovie has cast its Solid Snake.
According to a report by Deadline,Oscar Isaacwill play Solid Snake in theMetal Gear Solidfilm adaptation. According to Deadline, a production start date for theMetal Gear Solidmovie has yet to be decided, but now that Isaac is attached to star, it should become a higher priority for Sony Pictures moving forward. Of course, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could mean that fans will still have to wait longer than usual to see anything substantial from theMetal Gear Solidmovie.

Isaac’s best-known role so far has been as Poe Dameron in Disney’sStar Warssequel trilogy, but he has also appeared in many other blockbuster films, includingX-Men: Apocalypse. Looking ahead, Isaac is expected to portray Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he also has a starring role in theupcomingDunereboot, which will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on the HBO Max streaming service next year.
TheMetal Gear Solidmovie isn’t the only video game film adaptation that’s in the works. Hot off the heels ofSonic the Hedgehog’s big box office success, a number of video game movie adaptations are in various stages of development. December will see the premiere of theMonster Huntermovie, whereas 2021 will see the release of two of the more hotly-anticipated video game movie adaptations.
TheResident Evilmovie reboot, which is looking to be a more accurate recreation of the video games, will premiere at some point in 2021, as will theMortal Kombatmovie reboot. TheMortal Kombatmovie, like the aforementionedDune, will be releasing in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day. It was originally slated for release in January, but its release date has been pushed back indefinitely.
In the meantime, hopefully this casting announcement means fans can look forward toMetal Gear Solidmovie newson a more regular basis. It’s believed that the film will adapt the PS1Metal Gear Solidvideo game’s story, and Vogt-Roberts has spoken in the past how he wants to be faithful to the source material and Hideo Kojima’s vision. Needless to say, it will definitely be interesting to see how it all pans out, and how Isaac approaches the role of Solid Snake.
